« on: March 03, 2021, 09:52:54 PM »
Ok guys and gals what’s your favorite .22?? I’m super Indecisive on what I really want to get... want one to put in pack for grouse... (cricket, rascal) tiger 10/22 (grandpa has one that has no joke endless rounds thru it still accurate) over under .22/410 savage 42 I believe or a Chiapas double badger) Winchester wildcat... I really need some help on which one to get... would love to hear all of your input!!! Thanks in advance!

For grouse I love my ruger single six.   What a great shooting pistol and proven grouse killer.   I do really like the idea of the savage 24 or Chiapas though.

Rem 597 or Nylon 66, main reason is bolt hold open on last round for long guns. For hand guns 22/45 or 1911 with conversion kit.

10/22 or Nylon 66. Handgun it’s hard to beat the Ruger standards.

Bolt gun hands down ruger 77 zytel "huge money any more" but crazy accurate and one of my favorite guns.
Semi auto has got to be 10/22
Pistol single six convertible.

Now I love me my CMR 22 mag and my ruger american 22lr is super accurate as well. Lots of choices but the 3 above are my faves.

Keltec CP-33

33 rd flush mag and with a farrowtech adapter and tailhook it's the poor man's mp7. Threaded barrel and will cycle subs with a can.

Absolute joy.

For a rifle I'm a sucker for my marlin model 60.

The double badger. Bought one for my ex in 22/410 and then bought myself one in 22/20. They’re heavier though because it’s 2 barrels but not by much. Super useful especially when there’s a couple birds. Pop one with the 22 then shotgun the 2nd.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

I've had a Marlin 39A lever action 22lr topped with a decent 4x scope for 40 years . It's been fun , accurate,  reliable,  durable the whole time. It's been the perfect gun for all of my needs. Most other 22s feel like a " toy " , it does have a larger barrel diameter than normal is probably why.

For a pistol, Keltec PMR 30. Fairly accurate, 30 rounds in the mag and LIGHT! Barely over a pound fully loaded. For a rifle 10/22 with open sights.

I have a Browning Buckmark pistol and also a Buckmark rifle. They are both very accurate and both use the same magazines. My Dad has an old lever action .22 (browning or marlin I can’t remember), but that thing is still my favorite to shoot. And with the super fine open sights is very accurate. So many good .22 options out there!

Hmmm, with so many good 22's I'm not sure I could honestly pick a favorite.

I put VQ trigger kits in both my MK III Target and 22/45 and they're a lot of fun to shoot but I really like shooting my M&P 22 Compact and the last few outings I've shot it more.  The PMR30 is, literally, a blast to shoot and my wife likes shooting it more than about any gun we own.  She likes the big bang, but very little recoil, and fire ball the PMR30 produces.  They have a great trigger and mine is very accurate but boy howdy can you burn through some ammo with those things and those 30rnd mags.

For rifles I have always really liked lever action 22's and I've put tens of thousands of rounds through a few different Win 9422's and a couple Marlin 39A's.  I think the Marlin 39A is a little more accurate than the Win 9422's but the 9422 is much lighter and more compact and plenty accurate enough to hammer sage rats and for me the Win 9422 is just a more fun gun to shoot.  Probably why I still have the 9422's and no Marlin 39A's.

Any of the Ruger MK series of 22's are great.  Their 22/45 is great as is Ruger's SR22 and Single six.  I really like my M&P 22 Compact.  In 22 Mag the KelTec PMR30 is a lot of firepower, for a 22, in a light and somewhat compact size pistol.

To pick just one favorite, for me, would be no bueno.  There are just to many really good ones to choose from which is a good thing.

I think 22s are best when they are cheap and fun

My camp gun is a Winchester 190 with irons

If it is more compact and has short throw cycle on the lever it's a Browning but if it's a little longer as well as on the heavy side and has a longer throw cycle on the lever it'll be a Marlin.  Lever action 22's are a lot of fun.  I always liked the Browning but that short throw takes a little getting used if you come from shooting the Winchester 9422 or Marlin 39A.

In order:  ;)
Dad gave me a Winchester Model 69A when I was about 9 years old, I still have it and it shoots good.
My 22 pistol is a S&W Model 422, they don't make them anymore but it is a nice pistol.
And I also bought a Ruger 77/22 from my aunt after my uncle had passed, it is an accurate gun too.

Marlin ‘Golden’ 39A I bought with paper route money when I was 15. Still have it and enjoy holding and shooting the sweet little thing. Golden because it came from the factory with a gold plated trigger.

For pistol or would be my Suppressed Mk3 22/45 with VQ upgrades and a Burris FF3

Rifle was my VQ 10/22 , that was replaced with a Kidd , but that's been set aside since I got my CZ 455 Precision trainer with Lilja barrel , also suppressed

My first one - JC Higgins .22 with the tube mag. I think the barrel was close to 28". I could separate two gnats humping on a squirrel's ass at 100 yards. I like the stainless 10/22 that I won at RMEF and am also partial to the Rem Fieldmaster pump I have.

Buckmark for handgun unless someone gifted me a 617.

My dads Husqvarna 22 bolt action. Open sights, head shot every squirrel with it, shot a couple grouse and a red fox at 67 yards. Still at my mom's house. Still missing the damn clip I lost about 45 or 46 years ago. I wonder what the chances in a million of finding another clip?.....

Found this on Rimfire Central:
I believe that the Remington metal, curved, Mdl 511 magazines can be made to work with some modifications, if the OP has a Husqvarna Mdl 1622. However, there is also the Husqvarna Mdl 622 and 1722 .22RF, bolt action repeaters, and I don't know what may, or may not be made to work for a magazine in these rifles

Ruger 10/22 Such a fun reliable rifle. Learned more about firearms with that rifle than any other rifle I have ever had the chance to shoot.

Also the Henry survival 22s are fun to shoot as well. I keep one in my boat.
