My guess is (only a guess) is that there are that many "mis-draws" or errors that are being issued a tag. Or there are that many "extra" permits that are being issued as governor's tags.

Drew both, missed alot of time in the field the last few years due to family stuff so the wife told me to get after it as much as I can this year. Had to cancel time off from work twice this year due to being too busy so hopefully I can use that time this fall. Super thankful.

No Deer, No Elk...with one and 3 points respectively.  Drew Deer last year, then badly broke my foot 9/6, putting me out of the game for the WHOLE SEASON, even missed waterfowl. I wasn't walking without a cast or boot until late Feb.  :yike:

Drew Elk 2 years ago and work canceled my vacation. :bash:

I just need to RETIRE so that i can better take advantage of the opportunities without work or life interfering.  :dunno:

21 thousand multi elk applicants this year, no wonder us with lots of points didn't draw.  I wonder what you guys think about more multi tags?  Do most apply just so they can have more options in the draw? Or do most usually take advantage of the three weapons seasons?  I wonder how many people actually can take that much time off for all three, I personally end up being a weekend warrior on a couple weapons if I manage to pick up an elk multi tag.  I also wonder if the herds would even have more pressure by adding 1 or 2 thousand more multi tags? But with 21 thousand applicants and climbing, odds at 1,ooo permits won't get any better.

They give out 50 hunter Ed multiseason deer tags and 25 elk tags.
