Early application numbers from Montana
« on: April 16, 2021, 06:54:22 PM »
https://www.gohunt.com/read/news/early-application-numbers-from-2021-montana-deer-and-elk-draw#gs.yeorry

The state recently released a news article detailing some of the applicant numbers for the 2021 season and they are staggering, to say the least. Hunters came out in record numbers this year with a 12.48% increase in resident applicants and a 29.52% increase in nonresident applicants for special deer and elk permits alone. The state did not quantify the number of applicants who applied for the nonresident combination licenses but it is safe to assume that the number will be much higher than last year.

Knew this was going to happen. Combination of what Idaho did, timing of stimulous checks, and more new hunters due to covid. I'd expect sharp increases in tag costs soon.

And more people moving to Montana to escape Washington, Oregon and California.   :dunno:

Can you blame anyone for moving and or hunting out of state???

Meateater had an article, hunting and fishing numbers are generally up all over the country.  The western US is really turning around from shrinking numbers to expanding numbers last two years.

I'm sure some are moving from WA, but the number of those moving into WA is pretty staggering, at least where we live.  By percentage, ID is growing faster, but by numbers of people, WA is really growing, faster than Texas even.  Ironically, Alaska is #50 in terms of population growth.

There is a big divide between those doing well and those really struggling.  It's pretty crazy to see for sure.  I have no doubt the number of out of state hunters is due to a bunch of people having extra income coupled with less spending on other vacations and travel.

My party of three are part of the increase. We planned to apply last year, but with the uncertainty of Covid, we decided not to. For us it’s just an opportunity to hunt somewhere else. Frankly I doubt I’ll even deer hunt WA.

As long as the people realize what is going on and don’t vote the same they did in those states to screw them up. Or it will follow

I saw someone post on MM that MT had 34,000 people apply for just nonresident combo tags.

The only reason for anybody to not be doing well right now is there own lack of trying, seems every other business I enter and or pass on the street has a sign saying “now hiring” or “help wanted”

I didn’t apply for Montana because I refuse to pay $700 for a deer tag

I will be part of the increase they will see in pronghorn applicants this year

NR apps up 30%.  That's insane.  I feel like I see hunting turning into a rich mans sport right before my eyes over the course of my lifetime.  The days of opportunity hunts are fading fast.

With the increase in Montana resident licenses  I’d half way  expect the state may even reduce non resident license quantity and increase tag prices.
