GMU 204 and Turkeys
« on: June 16, 2021, 01:36:20 AM »
Hey everyone,

I got lucky this year and drew a modern rifle whitetail doe tag in unit 204. Do any of you know if there are turkey in that unit? And if so are they merriam? I know we have lots east of there, but the Wdfw map seems to indicate there are no turkey there. Thanks for all the help! Good luck on your hunts this year!

There's some birds around. Like you said, not as many as further east but I'd bump into em here and there during deer season. If you're focusing on whitetail you may well run into some

There are definitely turkeys in 204. Not a ton but you will likely see some. Had property there for 40 years and only in the last 3 to 5 years have we heard turkeys from our place. We worked them good this spring but they hang below our place and the toms had hens the whole season. We did get our first turkeys on the game cams this year so that was awesome but none were shot by us. There have been several reports of toms killed in the NF above us as well. WE have called them but not off the private land they were on.

Heck yeah, guess I will bring my shotgun and my calls just in case. Doesn't hurt in case you see some, my buddy still has tags too from spring he didn't fill.

Do you know if they are Merriam's? I assume they are, I am just wondering. Because if they happen to have Rio's which I know are in the 133 hunt unit according to the WDFW. If for some reason there were Rio's here, I would actually try for the grand slam for the fun of it lol.

most of the turkeys you find will be on private. ive seen one carcass, assuming a bobcat got it, about 5 years ago but have yet to lay eyes on one myself. not really known to be a turkey hot spot. hoping they take hold down the road though. good luck

There’s some in there and most as far as I know are merriams, but there’s no fall season in 204 for turkeys.

:yeah: To both! There has never been a fall season I am aware of, that said regs do change so I would validate just to be sure.

They are Merriams and there is no fall season there at this time there is talk of opening Okanogan for the fall season but not sure that 204 was included in those units.
