I’ve got two bears on camera and one I’ve seen while driving up to my spot, tempted
To find a different place for the opener though. Don’t want to ruin the elk hunting.
yeah but you may save a calf or two. You’d be doing yourself a favor.

I thought of that too, just trying to get my first bear so looking for something a bit more open instead of walking through the thick stuff.

Plus first baby’s due in October so I’ve got august and a week of elk in September to try and put an animal in the freezer haha

We'll be in 418, 437, or over in 133.

418 is crawling with bears... so it's probably where we'll start.

Gary
One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

I don't hunt bears based on dates, but on weather patterns and berry crops. If the crop is in and weather is cooler (unlikely) in the Alpine by August 1st, I'll be there. Typically the spots I hunt come into shape the last week of August (6-8,000 ft).

I'm concerned about how dry it is already this year for sure, that heat wave was brutal on the remaining snowpack, will be interesting to see how foliage and critters are affected as we progress through July.

Curious if any takers yet? How do you determine who is trigger man and who is spotter? I would be down for a drink at a Seattle watering hole to meet and greet as well mastermind on logistics. Went out last year but got my ass kicked by the mountain and ate all the get outdoors tags.

Bear hunting 204, get our first look at the land, look for deer, and good glassing points.
My hunting partner drew a second deer tag for this area. I’ve never stepped foot anywhere in that GMU. Can’t wait!
Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance, so we have two bear/ scout for his special permit scheduled for august. One at the beginning and one at the end of the month.

A friend of mine shot a 400# +- boar up tarpiscan creek about 5 years ago. Him and my brother were staying at crescent bar and went in from the Columbia River. They were actually deer hunting when they got him.

This will be my first year going full on for a bear. I am going to hunt and fish near Tonasket. What is the best way to cool your bear down the fastest way. I read about guys hiking miles in. Would one be concerned packing bear meat out that distance? I am continually being told how quickly it can spoil in the heat.
