If its true that they will offer the elk tags to runners up I like that a lot better than the flash mob wing & prayer!
Reduces my chances, but it seems the fairest method.

I believe he said there were around 130 elk tags available.  Fingers crossed!

I'm trying to make it easy for them.  Haven't got my elk tag yet.  I assume runner-up picks keep points.

Not that it's a huge deal, but if you buy a leftover tag, do you lose your point(s)?

No you do not lose your points if you buy one. Only when you draw.

Do you have to surrender your original tag on the spot or do you just get the option to buy and exchange?  I can't find mine and will need to get a replacement beforehand if they require simultaneous surrender.

Isnt anyone that did not draw a tag a runner up? This makes no sense so they must be running another drawing fornthe left over tags

Regs are pretty clear on the procedures for the leftover tags.

"Left Over Permits.  Permits not purchased by successful applicants by  August 1, may be sold to non-selected applicants  on a first-come, first-served basis. The Department  will announce when the remaining tags will be
available. To ensure you receive the announcement,  keep your email address updated in your profile."

I don't believe there will be a second draw, but, that would work for me

They did last year. Not a “second draw” they just offer the tags to the runner ups in the drawing. Your drawn in order from 1st to last.

When they do the draw everyone is ranked in the order they drew. Let's say you were number 16 but there were only 15 permits. This would mean you didn't draw a permit but you would be next in line.

I called yesterday asking about the leftover tags and the guy I spoke with said they are not sure what they are going to do yet as far as another draw or first come. He said applicants will be getting an email mid August stating what they are going to be doing.

The elk is really hard to get.

A few years ago I stood in line for a chance at deer and everyone in front of me was waiting for elk. Only the first guy was able to get one. He had been there for at least an hour before the store opened.

Be careful about the store you pick if you are doing elk. If they are clueless about the process then you will have zero chance. They have to be there waiting with your info when the system goes online.

As someone already said it is only OTC if you applied but were not selected. Even if there are extras after the rush they won't sell them to you.
