Toyota Tacoma OV tune
« on: July 27, 2021, 06:51:26 PM »
Looking into the OV tune for my 2019 Tacoma. Is there anyone with first Hand knowledge on the tunes good or bad. Everything I read on Tacoma world says best mod you can do to get low end power out of the 3.5. I have a 6 speed manual so it's not a gear hunting transmission it's just low end power I am looking for I would like to talk with someone or hear your experience if you have any input.
Thanks

I wouldn’t recommend it unless your completely out of the power train warranty. 5years 60k miles or risk voiding your warranty. After that do what feels right to you.
The 3.5 is not our best engine in my opinion. Long list of issues.
Leave it stock, she is what she is. More about fuel economy and emissions standards then about power or drivable.
Now the current 4.0l 4Runners, that’s the best thing we have made in a long long time. Almost no issues at all. Multiple techs I work with have bought them this year and last. Wanting to get one before the redesign and that 3.5 goes in, it will be a very sad day when it happens.

Best thing you can do for the 3.5 is to get rid of it  :chuckle:

As for the 4Runner, I love mine. I've had the 4.0 Tacoma, 3.5 Tacoma, 5.7 Tundra, and like the 4Runner more than all of them.

17 TRD OR Premium with KDSS. Sadly the '21 is $4700 more for the exact same options compared to my '17s original sticker price.

Oh man, that kdds system is sweet but $$$$$$ when you have to fix it.
I made absolutely sure our model didn’t have it. I have replaced to many pieces of that system just out of warranty. Hopefully your will be without issue

Slow hand,  it seems you know your stuff. Not to de rail but what is the best power train an years you would be looking at?

Fanboy here, currently have 2 4 runners in the fleet. 3rd gen is my daily. But we have discussed upgrading the wifes 5th gen. She has a 12, 4.0 with 140ish still runs awesome and she loves the salsa color and setup so parting with it wont be easy, but if significant improvements in the more recent years i may be able to talk her into one. Curious on your experience and whether it worth looking at. Thanks!

For the current vehicles being sold? Buy a new 4.0l 4Runner and you will have a vehicle with little to no issues for its life. Stay away from the 3.5 Tacoma’s. Buy your 4Runner before they switch them over to the 3.5l that’s coming.

As for the older trucks and 4Runners the 3.4l is Avery good motor.
Hope that answers your question

You would likely get a great trade in value with current low used car volume.
