Ram Manifold Leak/Sheared Bolts Repair
« on: October 06, 2021, 05:38:32 PM »
Looking for a good place near Seattle to have a manifold repair done. Think I have some sheared bolts…dang 5.7 hemi. Kirkland dealership was okay for my evaporator work but expensive. Warranty basically only paid half. Anyone have recommendations on a shop that does good work but not at Kirkland dealership high prices?

Seems to be a common issue.  Happened 3 times to mine under 100k.  At least it isnt a real expensive fix.

He's too far from me, but tons of guys on this board have had only praise for Coach's shop.

Yeah not going to break the bank, I was just real sore about the warranty only paying 50% of the labor cost last time...I've got the warranty, might as well use it.

What is the name of Coach's place?

You won't find a more skilled dude than Corey (coach) at Automotive Inc. If you're into giant elk antlers its a fun shop to stop at as well  :chuckle:

Why did the warranty only pay for half of the repair? Are you talking about the factory base warranty or you bought an extended service contract?

It's an aftermarket used car warranty. I kind of bought it to keep for a year in case of something catastrphic like a transmission or transfer case. Was going to keep it for a year and then get a prorated refund but when my evaporator went out (or more likely, was never working when I bought it because I bought in December...couldn't tell) I decided to just keep it. If the warranty is used the refund would have been the prorated amount less the amount paid out and it just made more sense at that point to have 2.5 years left of coverage.

So they pay for the cheapest compatible part instead of OEM (not a huge difference there for the evaporator, like 10% delta) and labor they pay the average rate in a 30mi radius from where the service is taking place. So that one was kind of on me for not digging into that part of the contract and taking it somewhere cheaper. Thats why I wanted to post and find a reputable non-dealership mechanic.

Talked to Coach yesterday and his rates are definitely way better than dealership rates! Just have to confirm if mainfolds are covered. A lot of times they don't cover exhaust parts so gotta see where manifold bolts fit into the terms.

Don’t tell them the bolts broke. Tell them the manifold warped. Coach will know that.

Also I’ve never heard of a service contract that operates like that and I deal with them a few times a day.

Good info, thanks. Are extended warranties and service contracts the same?

Yes...but by definition, really they should be referred to as service contracts.
