Alkali quality elk tag
« on: October 14, 2021, 10:27:33 AM »
Drew the Alkali (371) quality elk tag for modern rifle. Opens this weekend on 10/16. I know there were some good bulls pulled out of there in archery season, but am wondering if any muzzleloader guys have been seeing anything the past couple weeks? I’ve heard it’s been pretty scarce. Feel free to PM me. Thanks!

Spoke with a guy who had a tag a few weeks ago. He saw some deesh bulls, but they were very few and far between. Wish I had some advice for you -- good luck!

Good luck, not the year to have that tag I’m afraid. They’ve had all but 3 units closed down for the last week.

And that is why I’d never consider that a Quality tag.  Pretty sure the only reason they changed that to quality is for more tags in the quality pool.  That way it makes people think they have more of a chance.  I’m doing that there is only one bull option now for muzzy or archery now.  I’d be flexible if you can, don’t burn days if there are only a couple units open that don’t really hold bulls.  The minute any good units open (if they do I’d jump on it!). Good luck

definitely not a quality tag. I wouldn’t go as far as saying there’s only three units in there that hold elk. You just have to look a little harder for them. Ie probably won’t see many from the road. Hike those heavy saged canyons that you can’t  see from the road. You will find elk! Good luck

I know 6 is open don’t waste your time in there. 10 and 8 are open today. That country holds elk. Get close down by Martinez hay field. They come in and out of the center
