Someone walks into my shooting lane do I say something?
« on: October 22, 2021, 05:14:17 PM »
. I am amending this post. After rereading what I posted earlier.
I suggested that it would be unsafe for him to continue into the cut and that he should not walk into another hunters setup. There was no confrontation or anything and he graciously told me he was heading up to the next cut up top. If that young hunter sees this I would like to apologize I dont think I own the mountain I was just being overly cautious.  That is all.

Well walking down the road cant fault him as he would have no clue where you are at even if you were parked at the gate.  If it was me I would divert once I saw you.

People drive down the roads of some the areas I hunt. They never care or can see who is out there. I would turn away but seems like a lot of people don’t care.

If that’s a road, I don’t fault the guy at all for walking down it or walking through/past/in front of you. I’d probably not sit on the road and expect solitude if it was me.

If you said anything other than hello and good luck….then you broke hunters etiquette in my books.   Public land and a road to boot, means he has just as much right as you to be hunting there.

I faced this tonight. After last night seeing a good buck today I went back. Had the area to myself from about 1pm till 4. Most active time in this area. Other hunters started pouring in an see me posted up in the middle of the cut. We all waved an moved on. It's public ground so this is gonna happen. No need to get upset with others. I hunt where I hunt because of the action but my theory has always been if you see others you didn't go far enough.

Agreed. If it’s public, wouldn’t fault a guy for just walking down it. I’d be more pissed if some guy started yelling at me for doing just that.

Do you shoot this deer in the pic since you were 2hr ahead of everyone else?

Just to be clear I did not get upset or be unkind.this is behind locked gate dead end spur road about 800 yards longer than the pic. I just told him that I would be unable to shoot if he was out in front of me and I wouldn't know where he was and that it would be dangerous  to have him out there where I would be unable to see him.

I tell him what I think about him cutting me off.

Oh, I took that as hostile.  Glad to hear it wasn't unkind

Uh......what you described is why hunters have an obligation to ID their target and the background.  If you want to hunt general season in such an easy.....I know exactly where that is.....area and not have to be cautious of other hunters you need private land.
