204 Doe Tag Filled!!!!
« on: October 25, 2021, 08:00:57 AM »
After 5 years of hunting, I finally broke the big game curse. I wanted to give a big shoutout to Stovepipekid. Very happy he was able to join, and help me keep my head in the game. After missing a doe in the morning, we sat on an open field for 2 hours and 5-10 minutes before sunset out popped this doe. I lined up took my time, and she moved at the last second so I had to readjust and make a shot before we lost her in the brush.

I was about to give up as we couldn’t find any blood, being it’s dark we got a spotlight and started walking around. And Stovepipekid found her, 44 yards from where I shot her. I ended up shooting her right in the throat and she died quickly.

Congrats!  Looks like a nice fat doe!

Two of my daughters had a little buck fever when they got their first bucks.  Both had "perfect" misses like yours.  Aimed right behind the shoulder and made a perfect neck shot!  Less meat wasted!

It’s definitely nerves too! The more I do it, the better I will get! Thanks for the story!! Hunting sure isn’t easy, but it’s so rewarding when it finally lines up.

Nice work Zach!  Good eats and no meat lost.

And she was surprisingly not bloody it all pooled in her lungs and chest cavity.

That was a great trip and we ended with a healthy nice sized doe. Glad I packed the spotlight, and my thermals. It was cold and got dark real quick after the shot. It was super exciting being able to get her located and back to the truck. A success for sure.

It was dang cold for sure, 28 degrees with a strong wind is cold. Definitely need to get a stove tent and stove for next time lol. And the trip probably would have ended with me getting nothing had you not come along :). Thanks again! Now I just hope you get a monster blacktail.

This is great news!! So glad you went, even better the Stove Pipe Kid made it with you! that first one can be intimidating and the calming voice and assistance is so welcomed most of the time.

Congrats on a beautiful animal that will no doubt be delicious!!

Way to team hunt and work a plan. Way to not give up the search!

It can be deceiving how little blood you’ll see especially with a rifle shot. Maybe practice the high shoulder shots for next year in order to drop em. Also learning some tracking skills is huge in recovery, grass blades bent, fresh tracks/erratic tracks.  Thanks for sharing and congratulations!

Good job man my first deer was a big doe too. Never forget that! Good eating now too for the winter. I tell people if your shoot a deer it’s worth 1000 dollars now with the price of beef 😂
