Awesome good job! Was he rutting at all? I’m in Kapowsin I should have specified. I’ve been putting miles in hard glassing and walking through cuts, didn’t see a deer till after dark tonight. 11.3 miles I walked and not a doe but a TON of cat sign so I told my wife I was cougar hunting today instead. Anyone else notice severe lack of deer where there typically is deer up there?

I know of one nice 4x3 and a small 3 pt out of Buckley gate.. This morning I went into bridge gate. Saw 2 does, handful of elk and 1 grouse and 8 other vehicles out hunting. I can’t hike due to an accident I was in back in June at work requiring surgery on both feet so I’m hoping to catch one just off the road :chuckle: never less it’s nice to just get out and take my mind off of things. Good luck hunting!!

There was a ton of guys coming out tonight. I wonder if I saw you this morning deep back in the bridge gate. I saw some elk spook out from beneath a truck right at first light

I was in the bridge gate side before first light.  Got to the cut I wanted to glass and nothing for three hours.  Saw a few does a couple of days ago in the same general area but that's been it for the last two trips.  Didn't hear no shooting either.

I didn’t hear any shots either. I was wondering if I was alone with no morning action. The two point 20 minutes after shooting light jumping out in front of my truck was nice to see at least

Been in Kapowsin side quite a bit and seeing some does but no bucks yet.  I'm tagged out but still out scouting for my son as he still has a tag.

Sounds good man! I have a red Tacoma with a matching canopy. Can’t miss it. Same truck for 11 years so probably have seen me before 😂.

I hunted the Kapowsin side this evening.  Didn't see a deer and neither did the two other hunters I ran into.

Good job getting out there. I was sitting here telling my wife we should be out there in this rain and they would be moving. Surprised you didn’t see any. My buddy said vail is getting a lot of big bucks taken out. Might look into that but Hancock is right near home.

Seen 1 doe this morning in bridge gate. Tonight we went into Kapowsin and saw 1 doe and 1 cow elk. Still very slow in there. This weekend will probably be a pumpkin patch. Good luck to everyone going in.

Shoot man i don’t think so. I just talked to a few other guys but no Tacoma’s. One saw a huge cat yesterday in the far cut I like to hunt.  I saw a red Tacoma parked at the bridge gate though mine is a different red. Mine is red red lol. I have Washington mule deer plates too.

JBar,
That was me if you were at kapowsin gate this morning about 1030, there’s at least three of us with red Tacoma’s.  It was good talking with you.
It’s been a grind for me this year up there, 19 deer this week hunting every day both bridge and kapowsin, only 2 spike bucks and a glimpse of a branched buck.  Most days were daylight to dark, and two days I saw zero deer.   I know it’s blacktail hunting, but I’ve been going up there almost 20 years, had some good years and it just seems to go down for deer numbers every year.
Thankful for the access but in my opinion the forestry practices benefit the elk and the deer suffer.  The thinning also seems to have increased, very little huntable timber that you actually see deer in.  Not to mention 1200 permits packs a lotta folks into an area that continues to shrink with some of the land sales and gates on roads that used to be loops.  Good luck everyone this weekend, hopefully things pick up for the late hunt.

I hunted the Kapowsin side. Made my way up at first light.  I didn't see a deer and left around 10.  No shooting either.  Deer must have started moving after I left :chuckle:

Hunted the bridge gate side, hiked into a gorgeous area. No deer 3 elk. I was convinced all the deer were killed by cougars then saw this nice 3 point in a back of a guys truck. He said he saw me parked at my gate so drove to the next road went up a ways and saw them. Hiked in a ways he said before he saw the buck. Sounded like a cool hunt, I was stoked for the guy because he hasn’t been seeing anything either. Another hunter I ran into saw another cougar as well. Lots of sightings. More cougar sightings than bucks from guys I’ve talked to

I did a six mile hike, enjoyed the gorgeous morning, saw 1 doe 4 elk and found a bonus elk shed.  It was an eerily quiet morning for the number of guys that I know were out and about.  A handful of buck rubs but overall not much deer sign.

It was so quiet I couldn’t believe it! Watching all the trucks and stuff from where I was creeping along. Not much shooting at all. I heard a rapid fire like 10 shots. Probably not at a deer.

I did the big old loop tonight on the bridge gate side from 330 til last light.  Traveled probably 20 miles doing the loop and never saw a deer.  Plenty of elk out feeding in the last hour but didn't even road jump a deer.

First year in kapowsin/Hancock.   I hunted all weekend in the kapowsin side.  I heard 3 shots all weekend and didn’t see a single deer.  Tons of bear sign and I saw my fair share of old bones.  I think the predators are doing a number in there.  Which brings me to my next point.

Anyone interested in predator/bear hunting between now and late buck and then this winter?   I have a nice E call and decoys but kinda lack in the experience side but YouTube helps a bit there.   Also have well outfitted 4 door rubicon so when snow comes can get around fairly easily.

It will be closed after the sixth. This winter I’m down for sure to go up. Two cougar sightings on the bridge gate side in the same area in the last week and tons of fresh sign. Same spot I saw one two years ago. It was fox red color in February pretty color

Guy killed a cougar right where I ride my bike in to deer hunt Saturday. Ran into another younger kid and his brother who killed one in September, they never found it but it was mortal wound. Add that to all the sightings I’m hearing running into people. Cat infested. At least deep back in the 7 series. I saw a doe and a fawn, hunted 2 solid days all day.

Has anyone been out to the snoqualime property, or seen any bucks come off the property? I know Campbell manages it now instead of HFM. Ive hunted the kapowsin property for a few years, only been able to kill a bear and some grouse looking to relocate. Any advice/intel would be greatly appreciated.
