Wife's 2021 WA stud whitetail
« on: November 25, 2021, 12:46:08 PM »
Lets try this again. I tried making a post earlier and now the post wont open for me. My wife was lucky enough to tag out on this old brute. We've had this buck on camera on camera in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2021.  He earned the name "Goofy." Running trail cams like every year we find bucks that we dream of getting an opportunity at. This year we had a mature 3 point that was a shooter. Unfortunately like many deer this year, he died from EHD. When we discovered his passing I shot the next legal buck I saw. A young 3pt that turned out to not be on the camera I had there. When I checked the SD card to my surprise, the first picture was Goofy and he was there at 4:30am the day I shot my buck. I was speechless. a buck I hadn't seen this 2018 popped up out of nowhere. A buck I was sure must had died from EHD. Now the work starts. We hung a tree stand and figured out most of the time he showed up was just after dark. With the rut starting up we knew he would have to start daylighting. On opening day of late season we hunted another area in the morning on foot and she passed up 2 small 3 points bucks. Then sat in the tree stand till dark and nothing showed. The next day we did the same thing. Only seeing a doe on foot and then in the tree stand again only to have 2 does show up. Days 3 and 4 she woke up sick and couldn't hardly get out of bed. on day 5 she woke me up in the morning and asked if I wanted to go. Of course! Same game plan as before. morning hunt on foot and then back to the tree stand. we saw a few does and got a glimpse at a young buck. She climbed into the tree stand at 1:20pm. At 3:40pm a doe followed by a small 3pt showed up. she had 4 opportunities to take this buck. She even got to watch him scrape below her. She knew there was still plenty of daylight left to wait. 10 minutes later in walks the one we were after. She can see its him but doesn't have shot. Waiting it out he finally walks out. 30 yard shot and Game over at 4pm! Her first season in a tree stand, first season really hunting solo, and she made it happen! She said this was the most exciting hunt of her life. I've learned a lot over the years from this buck and still plenty I'll never know (Like where was he at in 2019 and 2020.) But I'm thrilled to see his story end this way! This buck was a 3pt in 2015 so we cant wait to see what the teeth test for age. I wont say the unit but I will say this buck was on public land. Enjoy the pics!

T. rex?  Dinosaur?  Are those eye guards?  What a weird buck.  I see why you named him Goofy.

That is an amazing story.  Congratulations.

Love the history!

That would make a killer display wall with the sheds history!

Nice white tail!
