Ailanthus altissima (Tree-of-Heaven) is good charcoal for BP
« on: January 08, 2022, 09:42:31 PM »
I found out that charcoal made from Ailanthus altissima (Tree-of-Heaven) is very good for producing black powder. Those trees are an invasive weed, now I know that it is a resource that may become very important if commercial black powder becomes prohibitively expensive.

very interesting info. I have had good luck using box elder and willow for charcoal in small batches, I use an old paint can w/ about 5 or 6 awl punched holes in lid.
