Help me mount my cannon downriggers…
« on: January 28, 2022, 12:56:42 PM »
I recently bought a new to me 18 foot Stipper with had cannon down rigger mounts located on the back transom. Couple of problems I noticed with that. One they sit so far back that it makes if a paint to get to the gear that is now dragging behind the boat when the rigged are up. And second it’s a pain to get to the kicker with one of the riggers sits right in front of it when setup. So I would like to know the forward and onto the gunnels. Problem with that is that my gunnels are narrower than the mounting plates for the riggers. Anyone have any ideas on how to Mount these. I am thinking I may need to have some custom brackets made. Anyone ran into this before? Any help is appreciated!

I had to build a custom aluminum L-shaped mount for my Smokercraft that mounted to the side of the gunnel.  That's what I would do.  Use a non-corrosive aluminum like 6061.

Like this.

Pocket mounts to the gunnel, bracket to the downrigger.

I've got one I'm going to sell, but John's in Everett used to carry them.

Do that.  That's pretty much exactly what I built, except for the little pocket thing.  I hard mounted the L-shaped portion to the gunnel.
