Success at Icemans memorial youth hunt
« on: April 04, 2022, 04:30:18 PM »
Best hunt ever!!!!!
I said success but it wasn’t because a bird down as my grandson did not get one not from not trying birds just weren’t cooperating for him.
We heard and seen birds every day and that was the success part because my grandson thought it was great and said it was the best time and asked when we can go back
Dale is a great guy and we feel very fortunate that we were picked for this hunt
He went far beyond what I expected
My grandsons gun was 2 3/4 in and dale looked everywhere for ammo but ended up finding a place in Mississippi the would load it and ship
His crew is top notch and his wife Tara’s cooking was great.
Thank you so much for everyone that donated to this hunt
We met a couple fellow Huntwa members and enjoyed hanging out and hearing about their hunts.
Our last night hunting after a 5 hr sit waiting and watching a huge flock of over 100 Turkeys My daughter spotted a coyote that was watching and stocking the same flock
Then ran in on them and disappeared
My grandson thought that was awesome he asked if he could shoot it I said if he comes by our blind he could but his turkey hunt would be over and he said that’s ok because it would help save some turkeys and calves that were being born in the field next to us
Like I said successful hunt all the way around
Thank you is not enough

Awesome!! We're all super fortunate that Dale is willing to do this hunt for the kids every year. Glad to hear you guys had a good time.

I sure wish RJ had gotten a bird, he really hung in there, but it was still a great time and successful in so many ways as you said.

RJ is a great sportsman already at his young age, I can see that's because he has good people around him. Looking forward to seeing you all again in the future!  :hello:

Thanks for that Dale .You guys did everything you could  and then some to get him a bird and he really enjoyed it
He’s already wearing down that pot call thank you for taking that time to show them how to use it.
Do I use sand paper on the face or the stick to get it roughed up to work better?
He really did wear it out and is proud of being able to make it work😁

A small piece of sand paper about 100 grit works well to rough it up again.

This a great read.  Sometimes, the benefit of the hunt is the experience and plain fun.

On a separate note, I'll be canning some of Iceman's Smoked Razor Clams in the next few days.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice
