Been years since I was up that way.
They are not far from some kind of water, with this heat.
Can't wait for harvest pics.

Have you been in the South Sherman Creek drainage? Or up Lane Creek?

Just got a phone call on a Moose sighting. It ran across highway 20 close to mile post 283. When the member gets to where he can post the video he will. Said that it was a keeper. Looking like it was headed for Bonaparte Lake.

He is driving back to the westside today.

Just got this photo. Not sure how close he was a cell phone pic. But has a turn down on the left side. Said he had to run up the bank to get this.

That is a nice one for sure.  I’m sure trophy is plenty busy being picky and choosing the right one to shoot.

First saw that guy crossing at about a mile down the road thinking there was a loose horse but as I approached, I noticed the car ahead slowing near the crossing point, (As was another approaching from the west). As I got there, I spotted it just off the road Dove for the shoulder and started digging for the Camera. Thinking I had very little time I gave up, grabbed the phone and climbed up the bank.  This was when I learned it was a bull. H was in no hurry until he saw me and then only started walking off to the north. Wish I had the Canon for the pics! I had no Idea he had that nice of headgear until I got a good look at that picture. 3 PM yesterday

No change in the weather until maybe Tuesday next week. Then a slight cooling off into the mid to higher 60's.

Sorry for being away so long, it’s been a crazy few days.  The main goal for the wife and I when this hunt started was, we wanted our son in law to have a good hunt and possibly end up w a good bull.  Well, it worked out perfectly  after a few long, uneventful days.  After being on a few moose hunts, I’m starting to realize to be patient, moose are the most patient animals I’ve ever known.
I try to teach my SIL that hunting is highs and lows, and it changes in a second.  That is how this hunt went for us.  First few days were very slow, hot and no rut action.  We checked several different areas and called into lots of deep canyons, nothing.  Got a tip about an area, checked it out, and everything changed!  Had 3 bulls with one cow within 180 yards and less, our quads didn’t bother them at all. One bull was a shooter for the SIN (son in law), he agreed. He had a small window between trees, he was nervous, and having his father in law jabbing in his ear, didn’t help! He calmed himself down, I shut up, lol, and he made a great shot.  I’ve mostly seen ground shrinkage in my hunting life, but this was reversed.  The kid was beyond excited, the eye guards were much better than we knew.  It was perfect!

A side story to our hunt, my wife and I hired Archery Outfitters to guide us on this hunt.  We had planned to hunt with Josh on the 9-14th of sept. Well, things weren’t going well all around as far as the rut goes, so Josh and I decided it would be better to reschedule our hunt till Nov, he didn’t want to just take our money, he wanted us to have a good hunt.  I respect the hell out of that!! That being said, from the start my wife and I have set our goal high.  We are not in this hunt just to kill, we want a special bull and we passed a couple, one was just a couple eye guards away from dying.
We drove away from this first chapter feeling absolutely fulfilled, can not wait till the next! Bring on November !!
