Awesome, I don't know the area, but I'd say practice your shooting skills!!  Shoot as much as you can, what kind of weapon are you using?  Have you killed an elk before??

Congrats on your tag draw.

Lot of info on that unit in here.

Use the search function, and I bet you can refine a few questions.

Good luck!

Yes he introduced himself in the new member thread. Hopefully someone who has hunted the unit can give him a little help and point him in the right direction? Good luck buddy!

I am 15 years old I have lived in Washington my entire life I have 2 hunting dogs a yellow lab and a red lab. I do mostly waterfowl hunting but also hunt other birds and big game and bass fish a little. I hunt mostly near moses lake but will hunt anywhere. I have been around hunting and fishing since I was born and got my hunting license when I was 9 and have enjoyed it ever since. I shoot and browning maxus 2 12 ga and a tikka t3x 300 win mag. I also drew the Mudflow youth bull tag this year and I am really excited for that.

Here is what Matthew posted about himself in the new member introductions board.

I have not hunted the mudflow but do wish you good luck.

Super glad that you found the site and became a member.  Lots of good people willing to help here and tons of good information.

Good luck on the hunt.

ive got some family that has had those tags. not a very big unit. those dates should be prime if we get snow. imo it wont do you very much good scouting that unit very hard. i would take the whole season off and shoot the first bull that gets you excited. there is a possibility to kill a pretty nice bull but this is more of an opportunity tag then a quality tag. #1 thing is to have fun and stay safe though. i would hike around the unit the first day and look for sign and try to figure out where they are coming in and out. then if you don't kill a bull on your first day i would just sit where you can see. if you need any help just let me know i wouldn't mined taking time off to help someone get a bull in there.

Love it, sounds like you are in good hands kid!!  Hopefully someone can video you shooting your first bull, that would be great so see your reaction.  Also, it takes a lot of guts to pass up a legal elk, and in your case, I would pass up the smallest bulls.  3 point or better!

The only scouting that needs done is to research access into the unit. With the hunt dates for the season, there should be plenty of elk in there and you should be able to be picky.

You'll probably want to use the Weyerhaeuser public access corridor, which is the 3100 road off highway 504. It's about a half mile east of the Hoffstadt Creek bridge. That time of year there should be plenty of bulls down by the river. Just be prepared for packing your bull a mile and a half uphill to the gate. Bring lots of help!
