Got around to sending teeth in on a bull I took
« on: October 05, 2022, 04:53:51 PM »
Couple years ago I took a bull in Idaho on a OTC unit . Upon walking up to it I noticed the body was massive , bigger than most bulls I’ve ever dealt with. We had scales with us to weigh meat for pack panniers for our goats . Once we boned it all out we had 322 lbs of meat . Back at camp I looked at teeth and noticed the ivories were worn to the gum line , so I was interested in how old this bull was. I saved the teeth and then misplaced them! About a year later I found them. I sent them in and got the results last month. 10.5 yrs old. Pretty impressive for where this bull called home, it was ground zero for wolf re-introduction in ID. Anyways thought I’d share

Very cool great bull, I killed a bull a couple years ago and sent in the tooth to WDFW. Never heard back or got results so emailed them and they lost my tooth. Just another example of Idaho having a superior fish and game.

I sent in teeth last year for the bull I got here in WA. The online tooth look-up told me they got them and to wait 8-10 months. It has now been 12 with no update. I emaiiled them and they said the lab was very backed up and it would be more like 16-18 months. Maybe I will get them back in 6 months.

Crazy to think of what they will do to adapt to their circumstances(wolves) and continue to survive. They are amazing critters. Pretty cool history on that one

In 2015 my brother and I both drew quality archery bull tags for the blue mountains, and they asked us to send the teeth in for those. My brother's bull was a really nice 372" 6x6 with kickers on each side and was 7.5 years old. My bull was a 361" 7x8 with incredible mass throughout his antler points and he ended up being 14.5 years old. I would have loved to see him at 9 or 10 years old.
