Thompson Center 50 Cal complete setup

I’m posting this for a friend of mine who can’t use it any more. He doesn’t use computers so asked me to list it for him. If interested send me a PM for his contact info. Located in Gig Harbor.

Thompson Center Arms .50 Cal muzzleloader. Also included is everything you need for plinking or hunting. Pyrodex powder pellets, 4 cans black powder, .50 Cal Balls, cap holders, caps, sabots, several speed loaders, quality powder horn, two nice possibles bags, cleaning stuff, patches, books, the whole shebang. He’s asking $600for everything but will listen to reasonable offers. Not interested in trades. Merry Christmas, anyone?

Looking at the picture I see that one of the black powder cans is FFFG powder.

FFFG is a finely grained powder for pistols. If I am not mistaken,... you could get in a heap of trouble using pistol powder in a rifle....... like "KABOOM"!!!! Black powder rifles use FFG powder.

I can't tell the type of powder in the other 2 cans....

You can accommodate for this. I think with fffg you gain about 10 percent by volume over ffg.

I've used both in my muzzleloader with no issues.

Thanks Lee, good catch- I don’t know anything about bP. He did mention that he used to have a black powder pistol. I’ll tell him to be sure to set it aside.

You ca  use fffg in rifles. Yes, it will go "Kaboom" ,  that's what it is supposed to do.  I use it in both my 50 and 54 caliber Hawkins with no issues.

FFG (commonly called Double “F”)
This is a very popular powder for .45 caliber to .58 caliber rifles.
It is also used for 12, 16, and 20 gauge muzzleloading shotguns.
While it is not considered a pistol powder, it is sometimes used in
very large caliber single shot pistols. It is recommended for use
in most T/C muzzleloaders.

FFFG (commonly called Triple “F”)
Due to its wide range of uses, Triple “F” is the black powder that
is most commonly found on a dealer’s shelf. It is used in all percussion
revolvers, most single shot pistols, and most of the
smaller (under .45 caliber) rifles. In a pinch, it can also be used
to prime a flint lock.

Nowhere in the 50cal Owners manual is a FFFG load advertised. Just FFG or equivalent.

I swear those Thompson manuals haven't been updated since the 80's. Nowadays people work up their own loads with sabots and whatever new lead free cartridges they find to experiment with. Just finding how much powder works for your load can change from one bullet to another. None of this means squat if you know what you are doing. I also keep a film cartridge full of FFFFG for if my gun doesn't go off, you put a little in the nipple or remove the nipple and pack some into it then put a cap on and KABOOM! I have also found that Thompson Center .50 cal guns almost always shoot better if you wait about six shots to clean them. They like it dirty!

And one more thing... Who reads owners manuals!?

I have always used fff in my hawkers.  Don't set it aside

All that Black Powder is Super dangerous, I'll help you out and dispose of it properly.  on a serious note ffffg is commonly used as priming powder for flintlock. I use 3f for everything. Also does the gun have a K to start the serial number?

I only use loose 3F as well. Nice rifle.  Good luck with sale

Used up pounds of triple F in all the 50 cal. muzzle loaders I shot.  Never had any issues. Good stuff!

Good luck on the sale, someone is going to get a great deal on a great rifle!!
