Begging for 574 late info
« on: November 21, 2022, 08:11:40 PM »
My son in law and I drew late muzzy cow tags for 574 wind river and with everything going on in life, we didn't get a chance to scout. I have been in the unit, but it's probably been 15 years...
Not looking for someones "secret spot" just advice on where to start, camp general advice. We only have 4 days to hunt, Dec 3rd-6th and will set up a camp somewhere in the unit. This will be my SIL 2nd year hunting anything... last year we found some elk but didn't get on them... trying to get him his 1st big game critter.

Thanks for any help...

Can't we all just get along?

I’d love some tips, but I just want to shoot a big bull, no big deal.

That season is open starting Wednesday and I’m happy to pass along any info on cows I find to the OP!

I plan to spend some time in the unit mid day on Wednesday seeing if I can find anything interesting.

If I find any areas with elk/sign I’ll pass along the info!

Saw a herd today 1 mile before goose lake headed south in the wind river unit toward the lava beds. 9 cows 1spike and 1 little 4 point bull.  Not to often I get fresh trout from goose lake and see elk on same day😁

Dang! I chickened out going up the hill from Trout Lake yesterday because it was icy even in the valley.

This hunt requires a chained up 4x4 if you want to make it to where the elk are at

Thanks guys... starting to watch the weather for next weekend, and it looks like a bunch of snow between now and then....
Almost sounds like too much of a good thing.. :(
