Snow was rough but I was still able to get one.

Great buck Nimrod, love those dark heavy ones. I think I bumped into you in the hills one day when the snow was just getting going. Glad to see you got a good one.

Going into this hunt I had every intention of milking it out til the bitter end and eating the tag if need be in order to find a big one, but that's not the way it ended up. I was working a ton of hours in the months leading up to this hunt and had very little time to prepare let alone spend with the family. Overall it was a good hunt, most days averaged 10-15 bucks but the quality was very low for the most part. I spent some time hunting up higher than I probably should have been in order to try to locate a better class of deer to no avail. Sign was nearly non-existent up there let alone deer sightings. The snow was rough there for a while, but towards the end it had melted down to a manageable level in the areas I was hunting, around a foot or so on the south facing slopes. The wife managed to make it up for a few days to hunt with me and we ended up killing the first decent buck I had laid eyes on in 10 days. He was moving fairly quickly through some timber at 500yds and we didn't have a lot of time to judge him, I thought he was a little better than he ended up being but subconsciously I think I pulled the trigger because I was ready to get home and finally spend some time with the kiddos.

Great buck Mtnwalker, man those genes run strong up there.

He didn’t have the massive fronts but those g2’s and sticker sure look familiar

Well all in all it was a great hunt! First 4-5 days were perfect - able to hike in 5 miles no problem and had a blast and then the snow hit. I know we all want snow for the late hunts , but it simply didn’t stop and 3’ definitely changes things up for deer and the hunt. So I was there for 13 days total on a solo hunt and I got by buck on day 9 of the actual hunt. I was there 2 days early and it took me a couple days to get my trailer out after the fact. In the 9 days I saw 40-50 bucks and passed on a couple in the first couple days that I should not have probably, then I did chase around a nice 28” 5x5 for a couple days , but just did not end up putting it all together. Ended up getting my truck stuck 3 times , but that just added to the memories! Could I have shot a bigger buck - yes. But I kept holding out and definitely I feel I put my work in. I am totally happy with him and he’s right at 25” - and I was ready to be done

Congratulations!
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
