Cow Hunt- not in Washington
« on: February 17, 2023, 06:24:40 PM »
We have 4 great sons.  One of them contacted me with wanting to go somewhere on a canned cow hunt.  I  would appreciate any suggestions from folks who have been on one (meat hunt)  can travel and he is one of my financial prudent sons so that is part of the elements.  He's not picky just tight and is going to have his house paid off before turning 40. I will also reach out to bearpaw because I think he has some hunts also.  Thank you

They ain’t cheap most places are around 3k for a cow. White peaks is one over in Idaho might talk to them. Haven’t hunted with them but was a booth or 2 down from them several years in a row doing sportsman’s shows and seemed like ok guys.

Call some of the outfitters in MT, late cow hunts are popular with the ranchers that want to haze them off their hay at the end of the season.

WY has good draw hunts but they are not as much of a sure bet.

Although this does not help you, I believe that Montana’s cow shoulder seasons ended on Feb 15.

Moose, I've hunted cows on private land in Oregon (landowner tags). I'm thinking of doing it again, so will call my old numbers and PM if any look good. Prices have gone up since my last trip. When were you thinking of doing this?

"Hunter's Rendezvous" in eastern Oregon. Outfitters name is John Cole. My father did several  cow elk hunts with him and would highly recommend him.

Anytime in the fall or winter.   Haven't thought about that.  Would probably depend on the draws in Washington but who knows how those turn out.   In short this hunt would be a priority.  I'm semi retired ( I have a fiddle foot)  but my son who wants this to happen would just get his time cleared.

I have a friend that has gone with Bearpaw on a couple of occasions and was well satisfied with the hunts and service.

Go to the Monster Muley forum and look under the "Hunt and Tags classifieds".  Scroll down aways until you see "Private land cow elk hunts-Utah.  Best deal I have ever seen on an out of state cow elk hunt.  $750 for the first cow elk and you can shoot another for $250.  I think the tag price is $250 per cow on top of that and they are over the counter and have a limit of two tags per person.  100% success rate and you pay nothing if you don't harvest an animal.  I have not hunted this but I have never seen an out of state cow elk hunt better than this one for the price and you only pay if you harvest. I know Montana-B license cow tags are more expensive then these tag rates along with Wyoming reduced cow/calf licenses.  Total cost to go down there and shoot two cow elk each would be $1500 and success is guaranteed or you don't have to pay.  Access on private ranch is included and they retrieve your elk with a tractor for you and guiding included.  Try to beat that!

Looks like the season ended on the last day of January but if you are interested you could call them and possibly schedule it for next year???  They have a phone number to call.

But do your research because I am just sharing something I saw on a different forum.

Thorp Outdoors based in Oregon does a cow elk for 4 hunters $2000 each. I'm doing a draw hunt in Wyoming this fall with Backcountry Hunting Logistics tagging along with my stepfather on his bull elk hunt. The Wyoming hunt is right at $3000 if you draw, plus the $300 tag.
