I want a rifle that doesn't pack up snow in every little crack, AR and most chassis rifles are out

I want it to be very light (gotta walk a lot!)

I don't want it to freeze my hands immediately (I hate that)

I want it to shoot flat, and buck the wind (cross wind canyons)

I don't want giant blown out holes in the fur

I want a light recoil for better follow up shots (got 2 tags?)

Seekins Element in 6.5 PRC is what I use, it would fit your description.

6mm creedmoor or .243 would make a great wolf gun

Ive killed quite a few yotes out to 608 yards with a 6.5cm and it flat out slams them. 130gr bullets. Id not hesitate to do wolf.

I couldn't imagine spending a crudload of cash to build a custom rifle for woofs... but that's me.   Kill them with anything you can get your hands on.  As mentioned earlier, ANY deer or elk caliber will work great.

If I was building a dedicated wolf gun it would be a 20" 8 twist 6CM on a lone peak fusion action dropped in a manners pro hunter stock with aics 10 round mags. 105 berger hunting vld's. Enough capacity to lay the hate on multiple dogs from end of the barrel or cross canyon. Low recoil for staying on target.

Just a big dog,not sure I would do a custom build.
But if you got the cash to burn ,why not right.

I'd probably use my 243 with 103 grain eldx.
Took a small bear and cougar last year with it.
Sure it would work on wolf.
Any deer caliber and up would be fine.
How many yards away you want to smoke one is the question,then decide caliber.

Funny part about the 6 creed.
Is I'm getting pretty much same velocity,drops,BC, all that jazzed up stuff . With a 243.
Sure 6 creed gonna handle match bullets,long copper,Berger, a bit better based on twist .
Up to 103 grain 243 seems spin bullets just fine.
You can find it in almost all rifle manufacturers.

Data at the muzzle and data at 600 yards and out is not apples to oranges with a .243 with factory twist that doesnt support the long heavy higher bc bullets.  BC is diminishing with velocity and if the twist doesnt support the bullet, bc will decline at a faster rate and lead to the bullet being marginally unstable at a lesser yardage than the same bullet with the correct twist barrel.

Now a .243 with a 7.5-8 twist will do anything the 6mmcm will with the same bullets.  Loading the .243 so that the intersection of the bearing surface of the bullet and the start of the bt taper coincides with the case neck and shoulder junction AND still fits the magazine is an optimized loading for the .243 and performs as such.  I know this because I actually have one set up this way.

1. It’s a Wolf! 2. Wolf in and wolf out, most shot opportunity’s are going to be between 400-800 yards. 3. It’s worth $1500 when you turn it in for reimbursement. As someone said, you want it dead, dead.
I don’t hunt wolves, I trap them. But a rifle is a constant carry for targets of oppertunity. I used to carry a 300 wby. But after a month I’d get lazy and leave it in the rig. Now I carry a youth model .243, although not the long range sniper it is an ideal carry for closer shots while checking traps. And I don’t leave it in the rig.
The best, most successful Wolfer I know shoots a 340 wby. Another friend of mine rolled a wolf at 7 steps with his 35 Whelen. Knocked a quarter sized price of bone out of it. We never found that wolf.
The glass is important. I’m a fixed power guy, but if I was building a wolf rifle I’d look into those fancy adjustable variables. Suppressed would be an advantage if possible, but want a rifle with a barrel longer than 26”.
I’d keep a bipod on it.
