Basically this.  My daughter and her husband are looking for a first dog - not interested in buying a hunting specific dog - simply looking for a "good dog." Both the kids grew up in families with hunting dogs their whole lives so they are not new to dogs, just dog ownership.  They've been watching the shelters, which is fine if you want a pit mix...which they don't.  Ideally something like a lab, golden or lovable mutt would be perfect.  They are interested in a dog 3 yrs old or younger.  They are on a 5 ac property, so plenty of room to run, but they both work so they are hesitant to get a deep chested runner that needs daily big exercise, i.e. GSP, GWP, Setters, etc.  They are also wanting to stay away from shepherds , huskies, or herding breeds.  Yeah, I know, they're putting themselves in a bit of a box, but hey, you gots to start somewhere.  If you know of anybody that has dog that you think would fit the bill and needs a new home please shoot me a PM.

Thank you,

Mike R

No help here. Just throwing it out there though that my lab pit mix is the best freaking dog you could ever find. She’s done everything from hold point on a pheasant to tree in a cougar and dozens of raccoons in my backyard. The cougar and Coons weren’t planned that’s just when she goes outside at night to use the bathroom. And on the other note she gets along great with the horses chickens and our other small dogs. But it definitely sounds like they’ve got their mind made up on what they want. Hopefully someone can help them out and find them a great new member to the family

We got our new puppy from this place. It takes a few weeks to schedule the meet up but we got an energetic mutt with a great demeanor for our kids. We were in the same boat, no interest in a pit mix which is prevelant in the shelters

Thanks to those who sent leads.  The kids located a local dog needing a good home and made it their own.

Thanks again.
