2nd Bear Tag Question
« on: February 28, 2023, 05:19:32 AM »
So, I have not had the good luck to need a second bear tag yet but have been curious.
I may have overlooked it but was unable to find an answer in the regs.
Do you have to have the first tag filled and reported before you can buy the second? Or can you buy both and go out with 2 tags in your pocket?
I never worried about it much but in the last year or so I have been taking bear hunting more seriously and the area I am in for sure has the potential for a double if its legal.
Thanks

I'm thinking you can buy both.
Most buy there first, harvest, then get another.
Last year I bought a second tag.
Just a day or two after I notched the first.
Never used the second, but just wanted it in my pocket just in case I came across another.
Two birds in the Bush is always better than one in the hand-that way you can always go to the Bush and hunt another day .conservation=Better hunting.

You can buy two at once, but do you have the ability/facilities to process two at once? The concern of meat spoilage comes to mind, although you may have already thought that through.

Can't personally say I ever needed a second bear tag. I always thought of it like turkey tags. I buy a tag and hunt it. If I fill it great!! Get another and go again. Extended my hunting time in the woods, an excuse to make another trip or two. If I happened to fill both tags on the first trip, season is over.  I just loved the time in the woods hunting.

If a guy can handle one elk at one time then two bear are no problem. Bears are small animals.

Wait a couple months and you will be able to before august 1st. Back in the day when we had a spring bear season you usually couldn’t buy your second tag until the spring season was over.

I believe you have to wait until after August 1st to buy the second tag.
