well, we knew it was gonna happen
« on: March 07, 2023, 10:11:34 AM »
reading an article, short one, in eastmans magazine today. sounds like wyoming is going to charge a 21.00 fee for a nr shed hunting conservation stamp. they also proposed legislation to allow residents a weeks worth or nr free shed hunting in the beginning of the season. both passed unanimously and doesnt appear its not going to go into effect. im guessing that wyoming is going to start buttoning up everything here sooner than later against nr everthing :dunno:

id post the article but now sure how.

Wow you have to buy a permit to pick up horns. Sad deal. Hope that doesn’t spread to other states but probably will. Wyoming is definitely going all out on gouging nr but that’s not new. I just hate the thought of buying a permit just to pick up an antler. I blame hushing and Eric cheeser 😂

I just had a vision of Washington's implementation of this:

4 points (on average) needed to draw the whitetail antler hunting permit, $6.60 application fee.
6 points (on average) needed to draw the mule deer antler hunting permit, $6.60 application fee.
(blacktail still OTC- who wants to crunch through the jungle like that...)
10 points for elk, $13.20 application fee...
OIL for moose...

if you're going a state or two away to shed hunt... I do every year to find sheds, between fuel, food, camping, lodging or what have you, what is 21 more dollars. just like buying a two-day license to fish, paying your conservation fee or adding an aquatic invasive species fee.... just my opinion.

21 bucks is a drop in the bucket. The cost is not a big deal to me. It’s the thought of more regulation and buying another permit to do something in the woods. In Idaho ,I purchase every year, a bear bait permit, hound hunter permit, muzzleloader permit, archery permit, salmon and steelhead permit, migratory bird permit and found out you are supposed to buy a rock picking permit lol. They are flirting with a huckleberry picking permit if you pick over a certain amount recreational ( there’s a permit if you sell them already). The permits are all in addition to hunting and trapping licenses and tags. Enough is enough, seems like the more people move here the more permits they come up with. I almost forgot I also have a pond permit required from idfg for the hole I dug on my property that has water in it 😂

Whats another 21$ ??  Well its a continuance of chipping away, eroding our activities all taken with baby steps so most folks dont understand its just the approach to their agenda to end it all.  Little here, little there, too many guys are OK with this little thing (21$) and that little thing but the cumulative effect of this bit at a time merely slightly prolongs reaching THEIR agenda, but meets it none the less.

Past time to say **** no.      :twocents:

My kid went on a ride along with a game warden and he said that something similar is in the works in WA as well.  The warden had mentioned a shed season to him.  But from what’s been happening state wide I’m sure there is a fee to coincide with the “season”.

I see the money grab in full display.

At the same time, shed hunting has gotten out of hand.  These deer and elk have just made it thru winter.  One could argue they are in the roughest shape they'll be all year and the woods are full of snowmobiles, tracked 4-wheelers chasing elk around non stop.

IF this state was concerned about the welfare of our elk, I'd support limiting the harassment they are currently enduring....but we know thats not the case.

Elk antlers are soon to be antient artifacts.....
