reading an article, short one, in eastmans magazine today. sounds like wyoming is going to charge a 21.00 fee for a nr shed hunting conservation stamp. they also proposed legislation to allow residents a weeks worth or nr free shed hunting in the beginning of the season. both passed unanimously and doesnt appear its not going to go into effect. im guessing that wyoming is going to start buttoning up everything here sooner than later against nr everthing :dunno:

id post the article but now sure how.

You can thank the corner crossers for that...

Whats the reasoning for thanking the "corner crossers"? Were they non-resident shed hunters that corner crossed?

Dont feed the troll.

I see the money grab in full display.

At the same time, shed hunting has gotten out of hand.  These deer and elk have just made it thru winter.  One could argue they are in the roughest shape they'll be all year and the woods are full of snowmobiles, tracked 4-wheelers chasing elk around non stop.

IF this state was concerned about the welfare of our elk, I'd support limiting the harassment they are currently enduring....but we know thats not the case.

Elk antlers are soon to be antient artifacts.....

These are two distinct topics. The money grab and pressuring animals in their wintering grounds. I believe a reasonable Fish and Game department would adopt policies to keep pregnant wintering ungulates from being stressed by shed hunters. WA will undoubtedly adopt a new fee/tax on shed hunting because there are never enough revenue sources. Whether or not they tie it to taking pressure off the wintering animals is secondary to the extremists. The Commission really doesn't care that much about the critters themselves, only their non-hunting agenda. If stressing pregnant wintering animals causes higher mortality, which would in-turn necessitate limiting or eliminating hunting, they'd likely support it, 5-4.

They don’t. Dennis is still probably upset about the corner crossing thread and is now trying to stir it up here cause just like in that thread he believes everything has to do with corner crossing and his personal grievances are all due to others being jealous and bla bla bla. Seriously don’t feed the troll.

You guys are so smart. The corner crossing situation has brought unwanted attention to Wyoming and it's making people who live there get tired of people who don't live their showing up to hunt, or shed hunt, the socialist government properties. Blah blah blah, "I'm a Republican until it comes time to hunt then I want socialist public hunting rights and I want the government to impose a socialist program like eminent domain to gain access to public socialist land." Blah blah blah. Prove me wrong. Wyoming doesn't want you.

Wyoming isn't charging nonresidents $21 for a shed hunting permit in order to deter nonresidents from shed hunting - it's $21 for cripes sake. They're charging for the permit and raising the special draw fees because people will pay it. It would be bad business not to and in Wyoming everything wildlife = money.  :twocents:

Agreed. Several neighboring states are adopting regulations to better protect wintering ungulates.  That is reasonable in my mind and I support those efforts - if a state pursues these restrictions as a money grab I'd not support that portion.  Like most laws - enforcement may not be simple or easy, but it's better than doing nothing.    Bans on selling antlers would not solve the problem IMO...still tons of people would be out trying to gather antlers during critical periods in the winter.

We are our own worst enemy. If horn hunters would self regulate we wouldn’t need any type of rules, restrictions or seasons. The guys trying to get famous on social media really kind of ruined shed hunting. What used to be a relaxing time in the woods has become a competition. Eric cheeser number 1 offender in my opinion but many more like him. I hate the idea of more regulation and rules but if it’s necessary to protect the wildlife I agree 110 percent. Making selling antlers illegal would just create more value in the antler on the black market. Basically I agree with everything you said but it just sucks that we have to over regulate everything. It’s our own fault but usually the minority is the problem. I will NEVER buy a permit to pick up a naturally shed antler in the middle of nowhere. That’s just going too far.

I've always sat back and had the "is what it is" kinda attitude. However, lately I've been simply disgusted with just about everything in this state. The thought of more regulations, restrictions, seasons and having to pay to play has frankly put me in a sour mood. I watch "other people" not having to abide, pay or play the same as the rest of us.....makes me want to give this state the middle finger and do as I please which is exactly what "others" are able to do daily without repercussions.

Took my boys to Oak Creek to look for sheds on the 1st. As we were setting up camp on Saturday had 3 shed hunters walk out of the closed area with packs full of sheds. Luckily there were a couple wardens staking out the area and they nailed them.

Ridiculous though that a few a$$holes ruin it for everyone.

On the other hand though, I do think that it's wrong that certain user groups can go in whenever while the rest of us are supposed to wait for the May 1st opener. The playing field needs to be level, one way or the other.
