"Best available Science" trustees have no say.
« on: April 03, 2023, 08:59:50 AM »
So I was reading through some of the commission recent agendas.
So the best available science agenda.
When you hear this term,it basically imply that trustee such as you and I ,have no say at all in wildlife management.
And your non scientific opinions ,should not be considered in wildlife management.

So I'm pretty frustrated with this.
With spring bear and such ,the commission doesn't follow department recommendation, yet at the same time they are allowed to ignore trustees ,cause it's a non scientific opinions.

A guy like me ,that graphs harvest rates and simply looks at declines and what our average harvest rate should be is not scientific. This information should be presented to the commission every year without my help.

Anyway I just thought some of you should know.
That every comment you have made.
Every email you have sent to the commission is disregarded as non scientific opinion.
Then the commission doesn't follow department recommendation anyway.

Washington residents have no say in wildlife management at all. I know it's a dead horse. :beatdeadhorse:
Anytime you wasted trying to connect with the commission ,was and is a waste of time.

I rather piss in the wind, then have piss down my back.

The anti-hunters, and that is what the WDFW Commission is now, have in general been at it for a long time, many of them are now wildlife biologists who skew studies and their analysis of the data results in recommendations that further their anti-hunting agenda. It's very easy to see this is just another step by the WDFW Commission to close hunters out of the process. It's very easy for them to pick and choose data and recommendations from their favored biologists, no matter who they work for. Make no mistake, their priority, closing out hunters!

It’s a doubled edged sword. None of us would want the anti hunters comments to be taken seriously.

At best the comments gauge whether or not their scientific or non scientific policy has support…

I am so sick of them I won’t give them any info extra. No grouse wings, harvest reports, nothing.

They will adopt their proposal.

Quote
Scientific research is very vigorous, heavy on data analysis, and driven by questions that have never been answered before. The studies wildlife biologists conduct for peer-reviewed publications almost always have to be set in theory and written in a way that applies across taxa. They may still do taxa specific research, especially at the applied level (government, nonprofit, and consultancy work), but it still has to be scientifically vigorous.

Science is not an absolute, most often science is based on interpretation and theory of data (remember Weilgus), the commission will choose which science (from biologists with similar views of hunting) fits their narrative, this is how opponents of hunting are using science to accomplish their goals. Make no mistake, anti-hunting groups are in full control of the future of hunting in Washington. There is only one way to change that, only one!

I agree
I did think about that before posting.
But these anti-hunter groups can afford ,biologists, research projects and so on.
Where as the average hunter with harvest reports, trail cams and what not .Can just be pushed to the side.
I agree though it is a double edge sword.
I do want the best available science.
Then again we have to trust that the biologists making the reports are truthful . And really care about wildlife over there own personal agenda.

That is one reason I lean on the side of harvest reports.
Now that is mandatory to report.
It's kinda the old school way of telling you alot about specific areas or herds ,without even laying a boot in there.
To me it's like the difference......
Between tracks vs trail cam pic.
I'll take a track, any day over a game cam pic.
That how I feel about harvest reports .
I'll take a harvest report, over best available science.

Thank you for all you have done!

Deep down I still want to email and all that.
I will think on it for sure.
My emails will most likely be round file for the best available science that they won't follow anyway.
Just makes me sick.
I'll still think on it,I may not be done yet as well.
Not sure. :dunno:

Trust me, I know the feeling of beating your head against a wall. BUT, I am not going to let the antis get all the play time. I will still speak every chance I get. You never know, we MAY influence some of the new (last two) commissioners a bit. I've heard good things about "woody".

Just remember, based on scientific data, the fastest way from the fifth floor to the ground floor is out the window. But, that data doesn’t tell you what happens when you get to the ground floor. If all the incorrect data is collected and good data is not accepted, what good is the data you have. But yet this is where we are at with our current commission.

Best science available???

"hello, I am from the government, I am here to help you" :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

These last few years and for some of us, last few decades, the "government" never uses the "best" science available!  They cherry pick for whatever agenda they are trying to manipulate.

Good luck everyone!
