Blackhorn 209 80 bucks for 8oz!!
« on: June 03, 2023, 08:32:17 AM »
These are crazy prices it's good stuff but not sure It's worth that. I only use it in one of my muzzleloaders after I burn up what I got I'm going back to 777 and real black. What are your thoughts on this price hike?

I won't be paying that.
I will switch back as well.

More power to them if people will pay it , I guess.

I only take maybe 30 shots/year with the muzzleloader so I won't worry about switching.  If I were sending a few hundred like I do with the rifle I'd be thinking about it.

I wanted to switch to Blackhorn from Triple 7, but when I wanted some it wasn't available, and now when there is some available, the price is so high there's no way I'm going to pay that much. I still have nearly a full pound of Triple 7. I only shoot my muzzleloader maybe ten times a year.

If I were ti draw a really good deer or elk permit this year I'll probably be shooting a lot more, before the season, but I'll stick with the powder I already have. It just means cleaning the gun is a little more of a chore, but still not bad at all compared to the old style muzzleloaders I used to own.

Still finding blackhorn 209 in Yakima, WA for $59, which is still really high in my opinion. Range loads i fire 777 and my hunting loads I shoot 209.
I would not pay $80 for 8oz, that’s for sure.

I sent them an email last week and told them they ought to be ashamed. $160 a pound is ridicules. He sent me back a email saying how it takes "special materials" to make that no other powder uses. I sent back saying Im sure it does but I think hes full of s#!* price wise.  All should email them with your dissatisfaction.

I've shot both over chronograph both shoot very close to same speeds and 777 isn't much more dirty

Only place in town selling it at that price is hometown that I've seen and they are out now because I bought all 6 last week :chuckle: oak creek is $84 a jug so I'm sure when hometown resupplies it'll be at that $84 price point.

When I'm through these 6 I'll go back to 777. $80 is just at that absurdity price point. Hell $60 is absurd but been really wanting to see what all the fuss is about.

Lots of companies are now accustomed to being able to raise prices.  Some do just to see if they can get away with it, others do it in to make increased revenue targets without selling more product.  At some point they will hit a wall and have to retreat but there is plenty of money to be made in the mean time.

It is awesome stuff.  The accuracy I get with it in my Optima is pretty amazing.  Not much to clean up either.

It is not $160 a pound awesome though.  That is Hodgdon being greedy.  They say it is out of their control as it’s made in Canada.

I bought a bit of it when it was at Sportco for $31 for 10 ounces.  When I run out I will not purchase more.  Like was said earlier 777 for plinking and my limited stash of Blackhorn for hunting.  Should last awhile.

I have only bought it in 10 oz jugs in the past. too much $ for less product. Luckily I have enough for a while , then back to 777

How many shots you all get with 777 before you have to clean? Isn't it after ever one but pretty quickly cleans?

Not having to clean with 209 but 1 or 2 times a year, every 50 rounds or so is worth a premium to me. Maybe even 30-40 cents more a round it's going to cost. Luckily I don't have to worry about that for a couple more years though.

I’ve got enough for probably my lifetime but if by chance I have to buy it again I’ll pay the price as it’s very consistent and easy to clean when you need to . I can shoot a lot before I have to clean and that’s nice too

I rough clean at the range about every 5 shots. Invert the gun, run a brush through it a few times, pop a cap and keep shooting. Clean thoroughly when I get home.
