can't speak to the Peninsula but Kodiak bears are really big and scary  :chuckle:

Sounds fun.
From what I can tell size is similar both places but the Peninsula is flatter. :)
Looking to get it figured out.

I danced with a Peninsula Bear and I can't imagine a bear being any bigger.   They can sure change your mindset about who is the hunter

Yup, I hate'em, hate having grizz anywhere I camp or hunt!  I'll put a laugh symbol up just so you all don't tease me about my feelings.   :chuckle:

this is one subject I won't tease you about Jerry  :chuckle: We had bears so bad on Kodiak a few years ago we had to sleep in shifts just to keep them at bay. We spent half a day chopping alders to build a "ghost in the darkness" style perimeter fence around our hot wire fence. We also chopped endless amounts of dead and crackly hemlock stalks and lined all the trails leading into and out of our camp so anything approaching would make a lot of noise. Fun week of hunting looking back on it but at the time, I was just counting down the days till the plain came.

Man I wanna go back :chuckle:

Perhaps a dumb question here but did you camp up on the mountain or down by the water for your goat hunt Karl?

Both times we camped low. On the Feb goat hunt we opted for a low camp due to the weather we knew we were getting. Was an incredible effort to make the climb every day but worth it looking back because I don't think we'd have had a tent left if we stayed high.

On the deer/goat trip in 2021 we planned on spiking in for goats but due to the bears being absolutely everywhere from 3k ft all the way down to the lake shore we weren't willing to leave an unfenced base camp and meat, and we also weren't willing to spike out without a fence around us. Sucked really bad not being able to really go after goats but sucked less than being severely mauled or having all our gear torn to shreds :chuckle:

I've been to the Dancin Bear in Portland a time or two but I think that's a different kind of dancing then you're talking about.  :chuckle:

Similar size and somewhat similar terrain and vegetation. However I enjoy the Kodiak scenary and town culture a bit more than the Peninsula. Kodiak is a fun town to explore, can't really say the same for Cold Bay, Sand Point, or most of the towns on the Peninsula.  I've spent considerable time in all those towns. Just my opinion.

I can say you will never return. Perminently closed. But Portland can get crazy all the way around. Make sure you bring plenty of $2 bills.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.
