Right on👍 what length are you going with.

I just seen your post on your wrap.

7’, it’s a clone of the one I posted but with colors reversed. I think the action or power on it is different because that particular blank was discontinued. Medium-Light I think.

Saw a guy last year with different color tip top wrap on his rods, might try that too. Seems like a good visual indicator.

Sounds good. I run 8’ 6-10 lb koke lamiglas so much fun. Also use a 9’6” & 10’6” 8-15lb. Not as much fun as the 8’ers but always a good time. Tugs are the drugs

Seeing those at nearly the same price as it costs for my to build a cheapo is a little sad :chuckle:. I know there's a way to get discounts from Mudhole as a "pro" or whatever they call it but not sure I would build enough to qualify.

I wanted to go longer but unfortunately can't find anything longer than 7' in a slow or moderate action and light power.

My koke buddy wants a 9’ 6-10. Looking forward to see what he comes up with. I told him he might as well use a wet noodle :chuckle:

Who needs planer boards when you got 9' rods?  :o

MHX has a couple 9' two piece options. Action doesn't really fit a downrigger rod profile and power is a little heavy for kokanee but maybe at 9' a medium power is fine...I'd probably go with the 1084 since it's just a fast action vs extra fast on the 1083.

Well my mistake. Just realized it’s a blank. Should have paid attention. That is the exact action he wants i6-12 extra fast.

Cheap trout rods work great for kokes casting/spinning. Doesn’t matter. Kokes are really fun and low stress it’s a great thing to do in February when not much else is going on and limits are always basically a sure thing.

I prefer a medium weight base with a fast or light weight upper for Kokes. I had a four rods made up this way from a custom rod builder. Ceramic eyelets and cork grips before and aft of the reel. And a hook eye between the forward grip and the reel for storage.

FYI, I don't use a down rigger, that would obviously change the type of rod.

I have 2 okumas, a lammi and 3 eagle claws.  The $30 eagle claws are my go to and I'll never buy a nicer one again.  They are great rods and perfect for downriggers.  Hundreds of hours on them and they are at least 7 years old.  Just bought the 3rd one two years ago and still just as cheap.
