Stolen
« on: July 10, 2023, 05:44:37 PM »
Not sure where to post this so please move it where it needs to be mods.

I just realized that my hunting backpack, and another backpack are missing from my garage. I used one on a hike on Sunday the 2nd, came home and left it in the corner of my garage. Not sure when it disappeared, somewhere between now and the 2nd.

Missing
- Exo Mountain Gear K2 5500, Ranger Green
- Leupold BX3 Mojave Pro-Guide HD 10x42
- Leupold Gold Ring Spotting Scope, 15-30x50mm
- Slik CF634 Tripod
- Slik PBH-535AC Ball Head
- Orange Outdoorsman Bino Adaptor
- Steripen Adventurer
- 50 Oz Blue Nalgene bottle

UGH. I'm kicking myself as I've never taken the time to itemize a list of this crap and give it to my insurance. There's no way I can afford to replace this stuff before hunting season. Luckily I have another set of binos, and most of my essential hunting gear wasn't in there. I've already looked at Facebook, Craigslist, and Offerup to no avail, I'm assuming the optics went to a pawn shop. Anyway, keep an eye out please.

Thanks,

Rory O'Connor

Sorry to hear that Rory… f***ing thieves. I’ll keep a steady eye out. There are a few pawn shops around to keep an eye on as well. For what’s it’s worth I have an almost brand new tripod with adapters I’ve used maybe twice in the last few years you are welcome to use if you’re able to get your hands on some glass for the season.

Unfortunately, almost no one provides an itemized list to their insurance company. I brought in an itemized list with pictures to my insurance company when I moved here 5 year ago. He said congratulations, you are the first client I've had whose taken my advice to do this in 10 years of working here  :yike:. I actually need to update my itemized list this summer.

On that note, you may or may not know that your homeowners insurance only covers about $2500 worth of guns (ask your insurer to be sure). If you have more than that in value, say $20,000 for instance ... you'll have to provide an itemized list and get a rider on your insurance for the extra coverage.

Thats a shame to see this kind of stuff happening. No neighbor hood kids in the area that might do this? My wife just purchase security cameras on sale on Amazon yesterday just in case. Might keep an eye out for a while as some of these thief's stash their stolen items for a while before trying to sell them.

Update, this for sure happened Friday night, as Friday day I had pulled my tripod out of my pack to show a friend how to setup my chronograph.  They also stole the Wheeler scope mounting kit out of the cabinet in the garage. It's starting to feel a little odd because they walked right past a lot of other high dollar items, i.e. tools, blowers, fishing gear, etc... At the time I had bunch of camping gear piled up in the back of my garage and they walked around it to grab the backpacks and the stuff that was there. There are no kids in the neighborhood that I can picture doing this, they're all little. I have no contact with any kids over about 8 years old. This feels like an adult that either has scoped me out somehow, or someone that just walked in, found backpacks that had stuff in them and grabbed anything else that looked expensive that he could stuff in them. Thankfully I just loaned out my chronograph to a friend otherwise I'm sure that would be gone too because it was right there with the scope mounting kit.

This sucks. Get cameras up. Keep your rigs locked and empty. They may be back if they know there is more to take. Or just possibly they got enough fentanyl in the meth they traded your stuff for they won’t, but more than likely they will come down and be looking for another fix in a few days. I hate thieves and hope they all get what’s coming to them sooner than later

Can't stand thieves!! Coming back from the Kettle River last weekend - driving thru Okanogan was what looked like a homeless gay walking down the road with what appeared to be a stuffed full Exo pack on his back with a fully rigged Mathews bow strapped to the pack. Looked fairly suspicious

Man, that's horrible.  If our hunting seasons don't overlap you are welcome to borrow anything I have that you need.  Shoot me a PM if it would help, I would hate to see a guy sidelined because of a thief.

Personally I'd start by talking to your friend about which of his friends he told about all your cool gear...  Sucks for sure.

depending on what seasons/dates you are hunting, I have plenty of similar items to what you had stolen that you are welcome to use.

Backpacks for homeless are easy targets. Easy to carry easy to put stuff in. I had old Backpacks and random hunting gear and tools in my barn. A homeless guy took 2 backpacks,a tent an axe and some clothes and headed down the road. Luckily my neighbor had seen him a few miles from our road earlier that day walking with nothing and when he saw him with stuff his spidey senses went off. He approached the guy and asked him if he had anything to sell. The guy layed out all my stuff and my neighbor bought it for $15 and told him he never wanted to see him on our road again. Then his wife after seeing my name drove over and asked if anyone stole from us recently. Great neighbors are priceless and he fought me on paying him back the $15.

Thieves suck
