Backpacks for homeless are easy targets. Easy to carry easy to put stuff in. I had old Backpacks and random hunting gear and tools in my barn. A homeless guy took 2 backpacks,a tent an axe and some clothes and headed down the road. Luckily my neighbor had seen him a few miles from our road earlier that day walking with nothing and when he saw him with stuff his spidey senses went off. He approached the guy and asked him if he had anything to sell. The guy layed out all my stuff and my neighbor bought it for $15 and told him he never wanted to see him on our road again. Then his wife after seeing my name drove over and asked if anyone stole from us recently. Great neighbors are priceless and he fought me on paying him back the $15.

Thieves suck

My Suburban was broken into in a hotel parking lot in Portland (I know, big surprise).  They took a tool bag, dumped out the tools and stole the bag.  Same with my camcorder, left the camera but took the backpack.

The crazy part of your story is the scope kit from the cupboard.  At the end of the day, a bunch of people that steal have very, very serious mental problems and/or substance issues which makes their actions rather unpredictable.

The fact that they bypassed a lot of other stuff and strictly took the shooting oriented stuff (left powder, bullets, and ammo though), leads me to believe they knew it was there, which is really frustrating to me. I'm not flashy when it comes to that stuff. My neighbors know I hunt, but it's not like I broadcast it openly to everyone around all the time. My garage is always open during the day because my kid is always in and out, so sometimes I wonder if delivery drivers are scoping me out.

No, no cameras. I've considered it in the past, but have never really felt the need. Looks like that's changing.

Check your old photos, they can be used as proof of ownership. Most policies are RCV replacement cost value. The carrier will pay ACV up front less deductible. Once the items are replaced you submit receipts to collect the difference between ACV and RCV.

Rory,
if you need a spotting scope tripod setup I am more than happy to let you borrow mine. I live down the hill from you. I don’t use mine a whole lot. Sorry about the loss. I hate thieves! I also have an extra pack you could use if needed. Let me know.
I will keep a eye out for your stuff also.

Thanks everyone for the generosity and willingness to let me borrow gear to keep moving. I think I've got enough gear lined up to get out hunting while insurance works through their BS. I would definitely appreciate anyone in the area keeping an eye out for any of the gear to pop up. I sure would love to meet the gentleman that help himself to my gear.

Not to be the first one to bring up the topic...... sounds like you had a friend over directly before your stuff was stolen..... I'd be giving everyone who knew where my stuff was the what for...... nothings off limits anymore.... people get desperate and do stupid *censored* sometimes..... I don't know how your friend circle goes but mine is tight with people I've "vetted" so to speak, that I've known for years before they step foot in my house. Been stolen from before and it absolutely sucks, I've had a hunting pack, clothes and guns stolen. Nothing compares to being ripped off.... had any "salesman" coming to your door lately? Their way are becoming more sophisticated.... I know they have a scanner device out there nowadays that can copy frequency's of things like powered door locks, garage door openers, gun safes, credit card numbers and all things with a remote or wireless controls. Not saying cast a shadow on your friends but the saying goes keep your enemies close and your friends closer. My 2 cents.

I'm sorry you lost your stuff so close to season and I do hope you get a chance to recover it.

I had a pistol show up 2 years later stolen in was and recovered in California seized as evidence in a drug bust. Glady took it back. Sits in the safe nowadays since they ground in it and honestly *censored* it all up.

Rambling now I'll stop. Good luck. Hate seeing posts like this.

Can't stand thieves!! Coming back from the Kettle River last weekend - driving thru Okanogan was what looked like a homeless gay walking down the road with what appeared to be a stuffed full Exo pack on his back with a fully rigged Mathews bow strapped to the pack. Looked fairly suspicious

That is suspicious...

My friend that was here did not steal my stuff. We've been good friends for almost 20 years and he would have no reason to steal my stuff. Could have been scoped out by a delivery guy or a door to door whomever. My garage door is open constantly throughout the day because my son is in and out playing all the time. Someone could have easily peaked in. I now have cameras up and motion lights. So far nothing out of the ordinary and no one suspicious on camera.

Not a lot of either around those parts
What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.
