Dear goodness - looks like that spike saw the 7x8 last year and decided to start taking steroids and hitting the weights to beat him up this season!

My brother shot a spike 10 yrs ago and it had definetly regressed from a branched bull. Biggest body we have ever seen. And we have shot big bulls.

Stupid question, but is that a spike, or are those really well placed tree branches behind him?

Body on that is way big, and dark like a cow , not an old bull.
If that was a really old regressed bull, wouldn't the pedicles be way bigger?

Feel free to laugh at my expense.

Kind of agree......something looks off where the spikes come out of his head. My thoughts are there is a well positioned spike BEHIND the front elk (not the one you see in pic).........

or the OP is correct and that is a Fatty McFatterson of a spike,

I think it looks like limbs behind the elk's head. Certainly an unusual photo!

I am betting on hormone issues.  A steer, maybe, genetically or some one catching calves.  Likely this is it for antlers for 'it'.

Well those pics ruined my theory.  :chuckle:

I don't see the boys in those pics. definitely something out of whack with that one.

Here is another odd one. The spike on the right has shown up several times with hard antlers while the one on the left is just starting to grow new. Several other bulls have just stared as well. Do not all spikes drop their antlers each year? Date and times are correct.

Some spikes I’ve seen pack a long time. May 3rd, I would say the spike on the right hasn’t shed yet. One on the left has and is growing this years.
Good times only!
