Muzzy elk season time frame
« on: September 25, 2023, 08:48:03 PM »
Why did muzzy elk move forward so much on dates. It seems to move a day forward every year until it resets but it seems starting day went from the 3rd to the 7th. Guessing it has to do with weekends of the month but totally through me for a loop when I recheck this weekend

Opens the first Saturday of October every year I believe. Just happens that this year the 1st is a Sunday, so the opener is pushed to Saturday the 6th 7th.

2024 it will open the 5th
2025 it will open the 4th
2026 it will open the 3rd

And by 2027, there will be no season as all the elk will have been reserved for the bear, cougar and wolves  :chuckle:

Pretty much sums it up.   I honestly think muzzy has the best season dates.

Yep, when I was a teenager in Cheney only about 6 other guys muzzy hunted and it was a blast! You hardly ever ran into anyone in the woods. I still muzzy hunt for elk to this day and it has only gotten better in my areas. I am looking at moving over to archery in a year or two though.

Yea ok makes sense.. I didn't even check the regs and assumed it was 1 day ahead of last year, my fault but was bummed because I think there's a difference between starting on the 3/4th compared to the 7th.. leap year or something must have thrown it for a loop. Thanks for the responses

Last year was October 1 which is the earliest it will ever open, and this year October 7, which is the latest it will ever open.

Being the later date it will probably see lower success rates this year. Unfortunetely.

I don’t know. I think  it depends on area. Some gmu might be better a little later.
I am excited to get out there with a cow tag in my pocket.

But I don’t like the back to back muzzy elk and modern deer. Have to give up one day of either to travel 200 miles between camps.

Good luck all.
