I signed it.
I’m still not sure what the threat is, or how this policy has any teeth.

You’re not sure what the threat is?

Which policy has no teeth?

You saw the part about how the commission has eliminated spring bear hunting, right?
This thread is about the conservation policy.
Can you tell me what it will do?

It will open the floodgates to even worse policies and gives them more power. Its all a part of the climate change and rewilding agenda

I wish this thread with the link to the petition was the first thing everyone saw when they clicked on the Hunt Wa forum. I know there are reasons for things of this nature not constantly being front and center, but without hunting we wouldn't be sitting here talking about this on the Hunt Wa site to begin with.
Everyone lives off the land.  Some of us simply have more fun doing it.

If anybody prints that petition out and gets signatures.  When completed, please mail them to:

Gary Strassburg
PO Box 796
Oak Harbor, WA
98277

The wet signature petitions along with the signatures attained via Howl will be pooled together and presented in person at the October 27th commission meeting by myself.

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

Seriously spend the time to read it yourself. They change out conservation and go with preservation. They essentially want to close off most of the state land for animal watching and interpretive trails. They are proposing to change the mandate to get rid of the part that states they have to provide opportunity for hunting and fishing and start managing for “all user groups”. The tribes seemed pretty upset as they were not consulted at all and it basically states that wdfw will no longer be working towards harvestable numbers. It’s awful and a complete waste of time and will be a complete destruction of our outdoors. Read it.

Its time to send this out to all the hunters on your mailing lists because a lot on not on Hunt Wa or privy to what WDFW commission is up to

We have people mobilizing in full force, however we need people in certain counties mobilizing.

Nothing to see here then, huh? Wow what a relief. And here I thought we should be worried. 🙄

The Draft conservation policy changes the definition of conservation to preservation in short. It changes the framing for rule making to emphasizes non consumptive use. This is a strategic change to make it harder to do predator control, and in the long run have  abundant deer and elk.

This petition is a show of no confidence in  the policy and sportsmen comment as such. I doubt that it has any binding legality to the commission however if/when they pass this policy it could be useful at fighting it in the courts. The Draft Conservation Policy goes against the legislative mandate breaking the law.  Count on Legislative work this session trying to remake the mandate. Commissioner Baker has suggested at least 3 times that "perhaps"  the mandate needs to be changed. Baker is a lawyer and was part of the legislative machine for quite a while before getting on the commission.

Is that a more full explanation?
