Deer down, elk down in the blues, caribou gone, cattle off summer range, fido is in trouble.  Whether they breed it or eat it the results are negative.

It might make the news if its a little gal walking her dog that gets nailed.    Thats a popular past time on many of those local backcountry roads in wolf country

Yep, and the sad thing is you can't make the parents understand the danger of wolves. I was talking with some greenies from the wet side one time 6 years ago about the wolf/cougar problems we have here, he said what about bears? I told him if you see a bear coming at you just find a stick and throw it as far as you can the other way, and when the bear runs to get it, you run the other way. His response was, Does that really work! I was a bit shocked that he took it hook line and sinker.  My wife was standing there and she cleared the matter up and gave me hell for giving out false info to the guy :chuckle:

His daughter was over visiting with her little three year old daughter, she was crawling around under the porch, I told them they shouldn't let her do that as where they live it's loaded with rattlesnakes "lower Alder cr., didn't seem to faze him, he said the snakes would move out of her way.

The above pretty much gives a good clue as to the amount of knowledge many of the people that now live here have when it comes to wolves etc..

I can honestly say, when I look at the lessons that were worth learning in life, I've learned a few of them the hard way. That said, there are quite a few people that don't have to whack themselves in the knee with an axe to learn to keep their knee out of the way.  My point, there are people (God bless them) that no matter how much information you give them, no matter how many people they watch have a bad experience, you can't help them. It's just a fact of life. Until something happens to them, they're gonna be who they are. Which, when you think about it, we need a few of their ilk to have a good laugh now and then. The rest of society however, if given the information may take it and make informed decisions. Honestly, I have to believe that the Urban Subaru lovin transplants that have made the Twisp/Method valley home, aren't the group to gauge all of society by. That's just not fair!

These wolves would have eaten deer if hunters hadn't previously shot them all!!!

There are no deer or elk there because the scum sucking wolves ate them all.

The nice thing about wolves is that there are far fewer coyotes killing fawns these days.

That's true, but wolves kill the hell out of fawns too, I don't think it was a good trade off.
Wolves kill the offspring, and kill the mature elk, deer etc. pretty soon your herds are aged, they start to die off or get killed and what we have left is a predator pit which is where we have been for some time.
The few deer we have left are always on the run, always on full alert. We had a huge herd of five come off the top yesterday goin all out, they crossed the flat and went up the other side, stood just below the ridge-line looking back and pacing for about an hour before heading for the river bottom.
Drive the loop from the Methow side to the summit you won't see one single deer except those in town and even those are way down. 60 some years ago when we had the Game Department you would have counted deer in the hundreds.

I know, you know all this Bone
I know it’s not a laughing matter, but when you said “a huge herd of 5 deer” I got a really good belly laugh.
