2024 Youth Turkey Hunts and Pics
« on: April 01, 2024, 02:12:19 PM »
Had to brag on this guy, his first bird and I am super pumped! Called him in from about 150 yards out, gobbling fairly frequently, but finally saw him at 24 yards and he smoked it with a single shot 20 gauge and TSS #9s.

It was great weather, who else got out for the youth hunt???

My youngest daughter got her first turkey right at legal shooting hours this morning when he strutted into the decoys, triple beard! 2 hours later my oldest daughter smoked one when we crested over a hill to look to see what was down there behind the silhouette strutter. He saw us and we almost couldn’t get setup in time. After pics with him we went to the original spot of the morning and set back up. Literally 30 seconds after sitting down and doing a few soft calls a gobbler came in from the left strutting, spitting, and drumming. My youngest daughter made short work of that and was tagged out! We’re still out here trying to get the last bird.

Looks like good weather and good working birds so far!  Lets hope it keeps up as my youngest will get a chance this weekend.

Congrats to all the hunters and takers out there!

Looks like a pretty great youth season underway! Some awesome smiles and great looking birds! Way to go kids and the people taking them. I definitely like the longer youth season. Was a lot to cram into a weekend of snow when my kids were doing it. Lol

My youngest son and his friend got their first turkeys on the opener. Birds didn’t cooperate in the morning and they stuck with it. Getting one in the afternoon and then when they came into roost. My son with a Jake (2” beard) and his buddy got a nice mature tom(8” beard).
