Delisting

Wolf losses continue to mount.  Moving the fed endangered line to the Pacific crest trail would help with the problem, getting it down to one agency for most of the losses.  Not that this a solution just one very small step toward management.  WDFW paid $3700 dollars out of a $1.27 million wolf budget for wolfs kills.  I know one producer that lost more than that and was not paid a dime, inconclusive cause.  Keeping the pressure on for positive change could help.

Delisting would be politically impossible until they meet all recovery metrics in all recovery zones....thats still years away.

Downlisting is the conversation/decision in front of the Commission right now. Technically they are considering a double downlisting- from state endangered to sensitive. Honestly, if the Commission could compromise to a single downlisting (threatened), that would be a huge win, but they seem unwilling to recognize that successful wolf recovery is happening, just not exactly to a 15 year old plan's idea of recovery.

We'll never see management until we can acknowledge recovery has/is happening.

They won't delist regardless of whether or not metrics are met in all recovery zones. Anyone who believes otherwise hasn't been paying attention to the Commission's actions regarding other predators. The protection of cougars, bears, wolves, and grizzlies is a concerted effort to damage game animal numbers enough to severely limit or end the hunting of our resources and the raising of livestock. This has been the plan ever since King Inslee top-loaded the Commission with animal rights activists.

There was a petition to ‘downgrade’ the wolves here in Washington to ‘sensitive’ at the commissioners meeting prior to this last one. Several of WDFW own biologists and staff spoke on the need and adequate numbers of wolves to justify downgrading them, even moving onto delisting the following years with the numbers of wolves in Washington (number showed approx 260, released several days later). However the anti-hunters spoke up loudly about not meeting the ‘management plan’ secondary to no accounted wolf population on the westside. Commissioners Smith, Lemkuhl, Reagan, Rowland, and Meyers all denied the decision to downgrade them and the typical hard-spoken anti commissioners Smith, Rowland, and Raegan were in agreement with the other anti groups, despite being WELL over management numbers on the eastside. It’s ridiculous reasoning.
One thing to clarify to the masses is this problem is directly due to the commissioners listed. There are 4 commissioners in support of downgrading. WDFW own bios and staff are onboard with downgrading, which is NOT delisting, but is a step in the right direction and would make for easier mitigation options when this predator continues to decimate our ungulates and private cattle company herds.

Sure is ironic that the Colville tribe has enough wolves to have hunting seasons and now are going to send 15 wolves from their reservation to Colorado but we can’t get the moron anti hunting commissioners to see the light and at least begin the down listing to help mitigate the problem animals.

Make no mistake sir, they know the numbers are adequate to downgrade, they simply don’t agree with it tho and until we get new commissioners or something drastic happens to change their minds there will be no moving their vote. It’s been said before but the best thing we have seen in our engagements at the commissioner meetings is hunter/sportsmen numbers and speaking against their anti-science biased decisions

I don’t know if hunter engagement would be better but when a lot of these decisions are being made for eastern Washington they certainly should be holding commission meetings some where near where the people are being effected by their decisions whether it be wolves or cougars. Instead they picked a location that is about as far away as possible from the problems they are discussing and not getting any local input.

Perhaps Washington state could out bid Colorado, and could buy a couple dozen wolves from the Colvilles, and dump em out on the coast somewhere.
