WestPort Jetty Advice Please

I'm wanting to try fishing the jetty in Westport and have no experience fishing saltwater just trying to get an idea on the gear and rigging needed. Thanks in Advance.

Watch your step, gets more dangerous the farther out you go and, boy are those rock slick when wet.

A friend of mine years ago went out to the westport jetty to fish. Next thing he remembered is being in the hospital next to some nice lady that he didn't know (who happened to be his wife). He eventually got his memory back after a few weeks i think. Stay on dry rocks and if you have a backpack that you can put all your fishing gear and equipment in to leave your hands free to navigate, that would be ideal. Good luck and be safe!

The best part is when you drag your shin across a rock and open it up, all while it is packing the wound with bird poop!  :chuckle:
I have a Bud that keeps trying to get me to go out to fish the Jetty, and I keep refusing. Not at my age! I watched an old duffer like me take a tumble on them last year and it was not pretty.
Convinced me.
Hard no.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

Trick is fish the incoming tide before high slack through high slack. Smaller the jigs the better for the rockfish . It’s a lot easier from a boat and can produce some really good rockfishing. Also lingcod but expect them to be small. Mostly.
