6006 mt. Baker area goat tag!!!
« on: June 13, 2024, 06:33:03 AM »
Drew the 6006. Very surprised and excited. But not going to lie a little scared:)).  Not in the best of shape and never been in the area.  Now a good excuse to get in shape and get to know the area:))).  Seeing if anyone has any input on the area.  Also if anyone knows of a guide service for this area.  Might check into that if necessary.   Thankyou for any information..:)

Your on the right track of putting in some miles in that area which will definitely help get you in shape and learn the area. It doesnt hurt to try to hook up with fellow tag holders if you can locate them. Just have to take your time when getting one down and not try to do to much. You should do fine. A person can get carried away on a goat hunt by hunting spots above his ability. They always watch below where they are at, gave bounced small rocks off them from above. Hit up past goat hunters for that unit.
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

Thankyou.   Yes plan on doing alot of research hoping to contact some past hunters and couple summer hikes in the area.  Only 2 other tags in this zone.  Very limited.

Congrats on the draw! Getting in the best shape possible should definitely be a priority. And Skyval is right - hiking your unit as frequently as possible during the summer is a great way to test your gear (and your body) prior to opening day. Will also give you practice judging goats and distinguishing billies from nanny's.

I found the WDFW regional biologist was really helpful for my WA goat hunt in 2019, so I suggest contacting them if you haven't yet.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

I second reaching out to the local biologist. This was a huge help with my buddies goat tag.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!

Thanks everyone for reaching out.  After all the research and contacting the biologist for avalanche gorge trying to get information on the unit.  Today i was contact bt the fish and game.  Saying there was a mistake on the drawing.  So heart dropped.  I called and was informed that only the unit has changed.   Happy happy.  Now i have a tag for 6005 lincon peak.  Same area but different boundaries.. so now starting the process over..:)
