Koro Traps distributor
« on: June 18, 2024, 05:28:16 AM »
All,

I'm gauging interest in picking up distribution for Koro and feeling out the need for beaver suitcases, rat traps, spare parts etc.  If you have specific needs let me know as I'm looking to have a skid of stuff built and shipped and knowing what people need would be helpful.

Frank

I’d get a few springs for the suitcase traps. Youll only get a call for one bout every 5 years, but you’d have some for your customer. No where else to get them.
George had the printed instructions from Hancock on how to disassemble and reassemble the trap when replacing a spring. I don’t have mine anymore. Ask Koro if they’ve got anything like that. Makes the job “easier”.
Also some locks for the suitcase traps Koro sent out that they didn’t install locks on. George had half a bucket of locks that Koro sent out to give to people.

I agree with Eric that you should get some springs.  Also get some of the chain link fence baskets, they eventually rust through and I've even lost a coupe to animal-rights outlaws who cut through them to release beavers. Ask Koro to use better rivets on the A-frames.  I have a couple of Koros where EVERY rivet has been replaced.

I got my first suitcase trap in 1999. A Hancock. It has broken one spring, but other than that has been problem free. Since then I’ve acquired 6 Koros. 4 of the 6 Koros have beat them selves apart over the years. Broken rivets. You remind me, Urban Trapper that I need to look them all over this summer.

Frank,
IMO I would get Hancock traps.  Personally, I wouldn't invest any money in Koro suitcase Traps, I think their junk and way too many problems.
I've been using Hancock Beaver traps for almost 40 years know.  I purchased a have dozen off of Chuck VanDyke years ago because he was selling out, that is when I found out you couldn't sell me another one.  I sold them all.

Talk with Hancock and like Eric said, pick up a set of springs and I would also pick up a couple extra pans too.

Good feedback and I'll pass this along

I'm with you. The problem I have is that Hancock communication, delays, shipping, even invoicing, support is sorely lacking.  I don't know how I could get parts/traps, much less at a rate where I could even break even, less at a decent timeframe.  I don't feel like driving to South Dakota just to pick a truckload up.

John, I wouldn't say that Koro traps are "junk" at all.  If I can get a good deal, I'll buy any used Koros anyone wants to get rid of. If Frank becomes a Koro distributor, it will help me.  Both Koro and Hancock traps have their pros and cons.
