Gear storage - what do you use?
« on: August 09, 2024, 05:27:45 PM »
I currently have a husky job site tool storage box with wheels. It is a decent box but one off the latches is broke and it’s almost too big. It’s basically my entire camp minus tent and  most sleeping items. Im looking for 2 or 3 smaller boxes that are easier to handle and will break up items and keep more organized.

I’ve looked at all kinds of different Storage boxes online. The sportsman trunk from Plano Is priced right but I’ve seen them in the store and they seem a little flims, I would like something a little sturdier. The Roto molded boxes that a lot of the Overland guys use look really nice but are pretty spendy and one issue with them seems to be the inside deminsions are not near as big as outside with several brands, Kind of similar to roto molded coolers. I  don’t mind spending the money as these boxes will see lots of use, but I would like to hear what everyone else is using before I buy something. The yeti boxes seems like a perfect setup. Is there anything close to them that may be less expensive that I haven’t found?

That’s what we use to get our stuff back-and-forth to Montana as well as extra stuff on the hitch rack for the motor home

I will check these out. I hadn’t thought much about it but the fact that they are food grade is nice.

Costco ones are bomb proof
But I will say... I've got a few red top Husky totes from HD that are every bit as good.
57 gallon on wheels made it to Ak and back in fine fashion with gear and meat and getting punished by airlines.
I've got a couple clear lid ones I use for construction tools..been going strong for over a year of heavy use.

Ditto. I also have a couple of the black & red ones from Lowe’s. I think they’re craftsman. They see rough use & still look like new

I use the MTN Boxes from the Mtn Project. They're basically rotomolded boxes without the insulation. Half the ones I use have the foam padding. I have several of each size and if you can find them on their sales, you save a bunch of money.

So I ended up going with the greenmade totes from Costco. I actually seen online that ace hardware carries them too. I stopped in today at the local ace and picked up a couple of the 12 gal. Totes. For the price these seem hard to be beat! I just picked up a wall tent over the weekend and really hoping I can fit it in one of the 27 gal ones.
