Quilomene 329 Quality Deer
« on: October 01, 2024, 12:52:33 PM »
I along with 4 other family members drew the quilomene  quality tag as a group. I’ve done a fair amount of scouting but I have yet to turn up a buck i would consider first day, i’m not looking for something massive but a decent 4pt or something of the sorts. What areas would you guys recommend I check out? Feel free to dm or respond any bit helps.

I had that tag in 2000 and covered the unit on a quad for 10 days, and never saw a huge buck. Hunt the last week of the season since most of the deer will have migrated in there by then, and the rut will be fired up. You will find deer throughout that unit from the timber clear down to the river. Good luck my friend!

Been awhile since you’ve been in there I take it . Between tribal hunting And poor management. A true big buck is very far and few in between. We’ve had a couple tags the last few years and I’ve personally walked from from the fingers of the Perkins to the river numerous times and the days of big bucks are gone and good buck are right behind them. I wish you all the luck get off the road at least a mile and you will see decent bucks.

Take it for what its worth...

The Quilomene has been a unit that my uncle has talked about drawing for years and years.... I drew the archery tag in 2023 and it was by far, the worst late season hunting experience I have had. I saw one good buck of hunting daylight to dark... for 12 days straight. Fog can be an issue. Indians constantly cruising the ridge road shooting anything/everything.

Do not get caught up in the name of "Quilomene", this unit had its glory days. Kill the first "good" buck you see. Seeing anything in the 160"+ range is going to be a tall task... I saw one buck in this caliber, and he only showed himself for 2 days before a cat blew him out of the country.

Feel free to pm, I burned my points on this tag. I pray you can at least capitalize on an okay buck....

Even the private land bigs are a thing of the past.   Tribal hunting has decimated this unit.   I dont even waste the gas anymore to go film here.  There used to be some dandy bucks.   This seems to be a common denominator for many of the units utilized by the Yakama nation.   Their rights are not keeping up with the times in regards to wildlife management.

You will see a lot of deer...you & your family group will have a excellent time making memories that you'll talk about for ever. Don't stress and shoot one that makes you smile.

I had this tag a few years ago. As C-money said, you will see a lot of deer and I enjoyed the fact that you hardly run into other hunters. But there aren't big bucks around every corner. It was a tough hunt in that respect. Hiking a little ways away from the roads helped, even what was just out of sight.

:yeah: The key to most WA quality deer tags these days is to just think of it in general season terms. I was a bit disappointed in my hunt a couple years back but when I reflected on it I realized man, if I'd have had that same hunt during general season I would have been crapping myself with delight. The term "expectation is the thief of joy" certainly holds true when it comes to these hunts. Enjoy the low pressure, enjoy looking at a bunch of critters and knowing that a big one could pop up at any time
