Owning land on GMU 247
« on: December 02, 2024, 09:12:53 AM »
I'm looking to buy a small piece of land on GMU 247, for hunting and recreational shooting. Would this be worth it since a special permit tags is needed to hunt. How difficult is to draw for this tag I'm new to hunting and have no experience with special permit tags. Any information would be greatly appreciated

Entiat GMU 247 is open during the general archer and modern seasons.   You only need a special permit if you wish to hunt the late rifle or archery hunt.  Of course this could change at any moment if they decide the to stop OTC mule deer tags.  As for right now.....it has OTC hunting opportunity.  Great GMU and area to have property in my opinion.  It also puts you real close to a lot of other GMU's with lots of opportunity.  Love the area....though the land is getting really pricy.

As for recreational shooting.....the only problem I see if the fire danger during the summer months.  Be smart about it and it will never be an issue.

Sorry misspoke / typed.....I will fix it.  General archery and modern OTC exists.  No muzzy season exist in that unit, though you can use muzzy during the rifle season.

The hunting regulations, which can be found online, will tell you what you can hunt and when you can hunt it in any GMU.  Here is a link.....best to do your own research when buying land.

I believe there is a general muzzleloader season for whitetails.

I've never seen a whitetail in the entiat.  I know there are a few....but they are few and far between.  I have trail cam pics of a whitetail doe in the Chiwawa unit, way up past lake Wenatchee... :yike: :yike:  A lot of whitetails north of lake chelan, but not many south of lake chelan.

I'm sure there are a few around.....but I wouldn't buy a property in the entiat to hunt whitetail.  Be like buying property in Florida to hunt mule deer.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

The entiat also has a hair tag for elk season.  Could you find one there....yes, Would I hunt elk there....no.

I killed a whitetail buck in the Entiat a few years back that was running with a much larger whitetail buck. They are in there, but there aren’t many. I was in the Mud Creek area.

They may not be in big numbers up there but I’ve got a set of 150” whitey sheds from 2006! Saw a different one in person that year too
