I had a friend consign a few rifles.  He changed his mind on one of them and had to wait 10 days to get it out of jail.... :chuckle: :chuckle:!!  Basically had to complete the paperwork and have a background check done to get his own rifle back.

Nowwwwww....I may have misunderstood him....though I'm positive this is what he said.  Point being, if this is the case.....if something doesn't sell and / or you change your mind, it could be a hassle to get them back.  I'm sure one of the FFL's can chime in and tell me I'm nuts...or what I heard was correct.  This was just a few weeks ago.

This is all true. Same as if you were buying any other gun. I verified that before I put one up for sale a couple months ago. And don't forget ANY firearm sale, unless to direct relatives, have to go through an FFL now, by State law.
Ain't it great?!?!
All firearm sales, even to immediate family are subject to the state's required background check.

Are you making the distinction between "SALES" to family members and "GIFTS" to family members??  I was under the impression that immediate family could be given firearms without FFL transfer (immediate family as described ty the law).

I did not make in distinction between the two. I responded to GWP's incorrect statement about sales to family. However, you are correct, Bonafide gifts to family are not required to have background checks.

Not trying to thread jack but I have tried to the actual language on this and haven't been able to. Can you point me in the right direction? Does the firearm stay in my name if given as a gift? Do I need to write something up that would go with the gift/firearm?
Thanks far any help

Sound Loan is the way to go, Jeff is a straight shooter. Ive done years of business with him. I will be selling off a conciderable amout of fire arms, what I dont sell outright he will be handling the rest.

Most gun shops buy low and sell high, Sound Loan isn,t like that.

Sound loan does a lot of consignment work. Have bought too many guns there. They have the best transfer rate and are very fair and reasonable.  I have seen many estates come through there I think his reputation speaks for itself with all the recommendations on this thread.

I’ve had excellent luck with Lock, Stock, and Barrel Investments (https://lsbauctions.com/). They take 25%, but I didn't have to write the ads, deal with tire kickers, ship guns through an increasingly crazy logistics system, or handle any of the transfers and background checks. There's a LOT to be said for that.

Their auctions have no reserve, so there's no relisting or any of that foolishness. They list on a Sunday and the gavel falls two Sundays later. The price on the second Sunday is the sale price, and 30-60 days later, you get a check for 75%.

I’ve sold two batches of guns with them. On my first batch, I had a pretty good idea of what each piece would bring. Some sold for more and others for less, but the total was what I expected. The total for the second batch was a bit more than expected, although my estimates of some pieces were not in line with what they actually brought.

For me the main benefit is knowing that they’ll all be gone after a two-week stretch on gunbroker.com and that I’ll have a check 30-60 days after that.
