Ice Fishing Anyone!
« on: January 18, 2025, 09:00:52 AM »
Anyone been out? We went to Cascade last week to get the dust off our poles since we didn’t do any ice fishing last year. I see Curlew lake is getting ice finally at about 4” on the edges. We got some old crapper snowmobiles this year to get around until the ice gets super thick then we can use our side by side. We’ll be headed to Bonaparte (not for the tournament) in a few days then back to Cascade in a couple of weeks.

I have never tried it, but want to.   A couple years ago I was at a garage sale and there was a complete outfit, tent, poles, auger, chairs, and a whole ton of stuff I didn't even know what it was for.  :chuckle:  It was $400 and I didn't buy it and am still regretting that.

I see that periodically someone selling a whole ice setup for cheap. Bummer you didn’t buy it but there’s a good chance you can run into another deal down the road if you look.

I grew up fishing through the ice back east. So much fun. Too many 1 pole laws and not enough ice for me here. I haven’t tried it.

Can't you use the two-pole option on your fishing license?

Only on certain lakes. I’ve fishing to me is a jig rod and like 8-10 tip-ups. Use the jig rod while you’re waiting for the flags to pop on a tip-up.

Almost all lakes that freeze over in Eastern Washington and are open for ice fishing are allowed 2 poles.

Minnesota up Nort the we fished in the fish houses. The lakes would freeze with over 2' of ice by this time of the year.  I want to go out sometime again and hit the ice.  We mainly fished walleye, northern and eelpout, but you all call them burbot.

We used a fresh willow branch with some line tied to the end.    Just ran across an image a minute ago of me, about age 5 with a big batch of trout caught ice fishing.

Well, there was a cancellation for a cabin with water at Bonaparte (all other cabins are dry), so I guess we are doing the tournament. Anyone else going? There’s 2-3 feet of snow and over a foot of ice. The restaurant will open with prime rib Saturday night  . Gonna be fun!

My wife and I got out this week on the southern end of CDA Lake. 3.5 - 5 inches of ice.

Over two days we caught 70 fish, mostly small perch, but we did get dinner for both nights.
Day one we took home about six fish including a few nice crappie.

Different year for sure.  Went by Banks this morning, wide open. Lenore mostly open.  Even the smaller side ponds while iced couldn't be walked on.  Most years at this time Banks has ice fishermen all over it by the dam.
