The Bonaparte tournament was fun to see a lot of people show up. Beautiful place and we always love going there. However, the fishing was extremely slow. I heard out of 400 participants only 28 fish were turned in to weigh. Our livescope only picked up 10 fish in 8 hours. What’s up with the tiger trout, what’s their purpose for putting them in a lake. Bonaparte back in the day was known for lake trout, rainbows, kokanees and bass. Big boy cat likes to cruise the lake.

Went to Kellogg today and tons of people on the chain lakes outside Rose Lake. GORGEOUS WEATHER!

Went to Fish Lake out of Leavenworth yesterday. It looked like there was a tournament going on there,  there were so many people. Caught around 20 perch, a handful of trout and one squaw fish. Nothing of any size which I think is normal for there. Headed for Curlew next.

I’m going to spend the day on the ice tomorrow in search of some tiger trout. Seems like a good day for it.

If I was smart, I’d take a few weeks off and spend some time and go down to cascade and head over the continental divide and do some fishing, but I’m too cheap.  :chuckle:

Where do you go for Tiger trout? We’ll be heading for Curlew on the 12th for 4 days then on to Cascade at the end of the month for 4 days. Don’t be a cheapskate, set yourself free and go fishing while you can

Over here in the Clearwater Region, usually not too many that fish it in the winter and haven’t fished it since last May.

Definitely need to travel more in the winter. The Ducks on Ice tournament is usually a blast, but unfortunately won’t make it over there to Canyon Ferry for it this year.

Started ice fishing this year now that we are moved to a more ice fishing area. Always had wanted to try and was not disappointed. What a blast and great for the kids too. Been out a dozen or so times, been borrowing a flip up shelter but going to need to get a fish house soon to fit all the kids at once. Any of you who haven’t gone but want to go do it. Hard to see how you could not have a good time.

That’s how I see it. We run into a lot of the same people making it kinda of community like. It’s been a few years now but we were on Curlew ice fishing and we were killin’ it with the perch. We noticed a guy and his 2 kids about 50 yards from us doing some exploratory fishing, didn’t look like they were doing too good. We told them to come park their tent next to ours there’s so many fish coming through. They were kinda surprised but happy to do so. I could see their lures on our livescope so we knew they were going to get a fish before they knew. For the next few hours we could hear them in their tent laughing and giggling every time they would hook a fish, which made us laugh too. It’s definitely a hit with the kiddos and it’s something to look forward to for a sometimes long boring winter.

One has to love those days when the bite is hot and stays hot all day long. This one couldn’t resist being caught within minutes of putting the line in the hole.

That’s a Purdy one! Hot days are fun but can spoil a person when it’s not. We were on Curlew last week and after finally tracking down where the perch were it was non stop action. As fast as you can get your lure down you had a fish on. Got a really nice trout too but it went back. The sizes seem to be shrinking from 3 years ago, we struggled to get anything with size to them. We’ll see what Cascade has to offer this weekend.

They have been loading up on pike and perch at the chain lakes around my place between Rose Lake and St. Maries. I saw a guy dragging a stringer with a ton of huge pike to his truck Monday...

we watched them chase their tip ups around at a couple of the lakes Monday, looked pretty fun.

I wanted to catch a few pike this year but everyone I asked about it it told me how much they hated them and nobody wants them so nobody targets them. Granted there’s walleye in every lake here so that’s a nice fish to target but I’ve eaten pickled pike and thought it was fine too. An uncle told me he just cuts his line when he has one on he doesn’t want their slime out of the water and on him and his gear.
