We finished the very successful event last night. The highlight of the evening involved having a wildlife biologist from the Muckleshoot Tribe talk about their 30 year study on predator/ ungulates studies. This was 15 minutes of slide shows involving the ups and downs of not managing predators. Their studies have indicated that without predator control less than 10 percent of the fawns and calves will survive. With some form of control those numbers will easily go up to a 50 percent survival rate. These studies involved mountain goats, elk, and deer. These studies involved hundreds of collared animals over the years including cougars and bears that have also been collared. Just a note, yes their studies show that cougars do kill 50 ungulates/per cougar a year.So whom do you trust to get good information from?
